DESCRIPTION:Breast cancer charity Pink Ribbon Monaco is back with two big events next month\, featuring appearances by former E.R. star actor Noah Wyle. \nThis February\, two special occasions are taking place. The first is the ‘Dare to Bear’ Gala\, taking place at the Hôtel Hermitage on Friday 10th February. Star and human rights advocate Noah Wyle\, whose life was touched by the recent illness of a relative\, will be in attendance to speak about his experiences. \nTwo days later\, on 12th February\, will be the annual Pink Ribbon Walk\, which Wyle will also be a part of. The five-kilometre event starts at 9.45am from Port Hercule\, following a route that passes in front of the Palace\, the Cathedral and the Oceanographic Museum\, then the Casino de Monte-Carlo terraces. \n“The easy circuit will allow people of all sporting levels to participate\,” say the organisers. “Children are welcome and free under 13 years old. Other participants must assist people with reduced mobility or using strollers in certain places.” \nRaffle tickets will be on sale at €10 for two\, and a commemorative t-shirt\, offered by partner SBM Offshore\, will be given to mark the event. \nThe walk itself is unique to others\, in that participants don’t have a number on their bibs. Instead\, they are asked to write messages of support or tribute to people living with breast cancer. Additionally\, it is not meant to be competitive\, but collaborative. \n“It is not a question of completing the course in record time\, but of participating in large numbers to bring visibility to the cause we support\,” the association says. \nThe walk is organised within the framework of the Monaco Run\, which offers different events for all running enthusiasts over a weekend each year. In 2023\, the Monaco Run will offer 1\,000m races for young and old\, as well as a chance to participate in the 12-kilometre City Trail\, which will take runners through the Principality’s most emblematic sites via narrow streets\, parks and stairways. Five and 10-kilometre races will also be held. \nPink Ribbon Monaco has been raising funds and awareness for breast cancer since 2011 under the leadership of founder Natasha Frost-Savio. Registration for the Pink Ribbon Walk is €30\, and for more information or to register for the walk and to purchase gala tickets\, visit www.pinkribbon.mc or email contact@pinkribbon.mc.

SUMMARY:Andrea Chénier
DESCRIPTION:Love and hate in the French Revolution set the scene for the four sold-out Andrea Chénier performances this month at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo.  \nLeave it to the Italians to create the seminal opera about the French Revolution. First seen at La Scala in Milan in March 1896\, with music written by Umberto Giordano and the libretto by Luigi Illica\, Andrea Chénier tells the sad tale of the daughter of a countess\, Maddalena de Coigny\, who falls in love with Andrea Chénier\, a poet and French patriot during the Revolution.   \nAndrea offers her protection\, only to find a rival in former servant Carlo\, who now holds a position of power and threatens to not only derail their romance\, but to eliminate the competition by having Andrea condemned.   \nRenowned tenor Jonas Kaufmann is taking on the title role alongside Maria Agresta as Maddalena. This piece is one he is well-suited for as a seasoned performer who has taken on other challenging parts such as Don José in Carmen and Cavaradossi in Tosca.   \n“I think playing a historical character is fantastic\, because you have access to a lot of background information that you can incorporate into your interpretation\,” said Kaufmann of the role. “In addition\, the role of Andrea Chénier is very rewarding musically and vocally\, it is in my eyes an absolute masterpiece. And it is an opera through which many great tenors of the past have become immortal\, notably Franco Corelli. In this regard\, it is always a special honour for me to be able to sing this ‘tenor opera’.”  \nAndrea Chénier\, a co-production with the Teatro Comunale Bologna and directed by Pier Francesco Maestrini\, is playing shows on 19th\, 21st\, 23rd and 25th February\, with a Gala performance being held on 21st.   \nFor more information\, please click here.

SUMMARY:MAGIC anime conference
DESCRIPTION:MAGIC\, organised by Monaco-based Shibuya Productions\, returns this year with loads of conferences\, workshops and events for lovers of the worlds of anime\, comic books\, games and animation.  \nThe last time fans were able to come to the Monaco Anime Game International Conferences (MAGIC)\, organised by Shibuya Productions at the Grimaldi Forum\, was back in March 2019. \nThis long break was not intentional\, but it gave them time to regroup and put together a fantastic line-up of round-tables\, conferences and debates featuring famous international game designers\, producers\, screenwriters and illustrators interacting with the audience. \nAt a press conference on Tuesday 7th February\, Shibuya Productions President and CEO Cédric Biscay revealed that this year’s event will feature 150 prestigious invitees\, over 100 international cosplayers from 40 countries\, and more than 500 participants in the manga contest. \nSpeakers  include Hironobu Sakaguchi\, founder of Final Fantasy\, Koji Igarashi and Ayami Kojima\, both from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night\, Nick Dudman\, make-up artist for films such as Batman where he created the Joker’s look for Jack Nicholson\, and Stefanie Joosten\, the main female character of the video game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain\, to name a few. \nIn addition to bringing together the interests of those into manga\, comics\, animation\, tech\, video games and pop culture\, the ‘cosplay’ contest will see hundreds of participants dress up and act as their favourite characters for judges made up of the Magic International Cosplay Masters from Brazil\, Germany\, Vietnam\, the United States\, Mexico\, Chile\, Turkey\, and Italy. \nAdditionally\, there will be a special manga contest\, organised by Shueisha in collaboration with Shibuya International\, in which over 60 candidates present their projects and the top five finalists will have the chance to pitch their ideas to a jury of experts from Japan. The winner will see their work publishedon Shonen Jump+\, alongside legendary works such as Dragon Ball\, One Piece and Naruto. \nFans can also delight in meeting their favourite artists\, who will be available for autographs. \nThis fun event will take place 25th and 26th February and is completely free. Only 3\,000 places are available each day\, to prevent overcrowding\, so sign-ups are required. \nFor visitors who are audially impaired\, Saturday’s lectures will be translated into sign language\, so no one needs to miss a minute. \nTo register for the event and for the contests\, https://www.magic-ip.com/en/
