SUMMARY:Monacollecte
DESCRIPTION:Coming up is Monacollecte\, an event that focuses on collecting and sorting items that are no longer wanted or needed\, but could easily find a home elsewhere.   \nJust in time for spring cleaning\, Monacollecte is back for its second edition\, giving people the perfect opportunity to drop off perfectly good items they simply don’t want or know what to do with in Port Hercule over two days: 3rd and 4th March.  \nThe goal of the day is: “To offer Monegasques the opportunity to get rid of\, at a single point\, all the objects that cause them problems\, either because they do not know where to put them or because they do not want to throw them away because they are still in good state\,” according to Marie Berard\, Deputy Director of Environmental Cleanliness at the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement or Monegasque Sanitation Company\, who is hosting the event.   \n2022’s successful event welcomed nearly 3\,000 visitors and this year’s promises to be even bigger. Many local charities\, such as Fight Aids Monaco\, Mission Enfants\, the Monegasque Red Cross\, Les Amis du Liban\, Semeurs d’Espoir Monaco and the Nice Foundation\, will be in attendance to snap up things they can pass on\, making this an event that also has a feel-good factor. A last-minute entry is the Monaco Parents’ Association\, who are collecting old school clothes in good condition to be used by the next generation of children in need.   \nIn addition to the work at hand\, there will be a number of fun activities taking place\, such as the performance of funny skits\, playfully called Ratatouille Rhapsody by the Compagnie Ça s’peut pas\, which they call a “family and participatory show that addresses food waste and seasonal and local consumption with humour and music.” There’s also an escape game based on the story of a laboratory who has developed the Dechetivore 3000; a machine capable of eliminating waste. They want to keep it secret\, so players will need to use their wits to break into the lab and find the plans in under 45 minutes.   \n“A virtual assistant\, available on the Your Monaco app\, will lead the game\,” Berard explains. “This is an opportunity to introduce this new app function\, which has a sorting assistant.”  \nThe popular Mùnegu Repair Café is joining in on the Saturday\, giving those who have reparable items\, including clothes and small appliances\, a chance to get them fixed for free.   \nFree compost will be available to any who turns up with a container to take it home and a stand will be set up to speak about the virtues of collective and individual composting. Several other exhibits and information stands will be dotted around the port.  \nThe event is co-organised by the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement and the Department of Urban Waste\, in partnership with the town hall of Monaco. SUMMARY:Daniel Barenboim recital and gala
DESCRIPTION:One of the leading pianists and conductors of our age\, Daniel Barenboim is returning to the Principality this March to play at the iconic Opéra de Monte-Carlo\, some 50 years since his first appearance here in the 1970s. \nBarenboim has a story to tell about his friendship with the new director of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo\, Cecilia Bartoli.  \n“I have known Cecilia for many\, many years and admired her from the beginning\,” says the 80-year-old pianist and conductor\, who has worked all over the world. “It is common knowledge that my wife pulled me out of the bath to go and watch this fascinating young Italian mezzo-soprano who was replacing someone in a Maria Callas Gala on French television. I particularly love her marvellous voice\, her spontaneity and her sense of humour.”  \nHe will no doubt be looking forward to reuniting with Bartoli on 10th March for his one-off performance in Monaco\, where he is set to perform Beethoven’s last three piano sonatas.   \nTickets have already sold out for his night at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo\, but keen fans can discover more about this globally recognised – and appreciated – artist here.   \n  \nSign up for the Monaco Life newsletter. SUMMARY:Business event: Monaco et Suisse Investment Forum
DESCRIPTION:Hand-picked guests from Monaco and Switzerland’s top management institutions and family offices are being invited to take part in an exclusive event aimed at solidifying business connections as well as forging new ones.   \nThe upcoming Monaco et Suisse Investment Forum\, due to be held on 17th March at the Yacht Club de Monaco\, will feature 25 specifically chosen companies and exhibitors\, giving an invitation-only crowd of the “who’s who” in the Swiss and Monaco business and finance scenes the chance to meet and mingle in a setting conducive to making lasting connections.   \nWith a more interactive take on the format and a guest list of invitees that will top out at just over 250\, this second edition will be a more intimate event than last year’s conference.    \nOn the day\, guests will get straight down to business with a 9am reception and coffee followed by an opening speech. From 10am to 6.30pm\, the day will be filled out with panels talks\, seminars and networking sessions designed to give the assembled crowd the best chances to connect.   \nThough officially a one-day meet-up\, there will also be a welcome aperitif-cocktail party on 16th March at an as yet undisclosed location.  \nThe Monaco et Suisse Investment Forum is headed up by representatives from both countries\, with Monaco’s Raffaello Cairoli as its director and Switzerland’s Paolo Caspani as co-organiser.   \nThe full programme will be revealed the week before the event\, but for more information in the meantime\, please click here. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Opera: La Traviata
DESCRIPTION:The Opéra de Monte-Carlo will host four spectacular nights of the renowned opera La Traviata this month\, featuring legendary Spanish singer Placido Domingo.  \nMarie Duplessis\, more commonly referred to as the Lady of the Camellias\, was one of 19th century Paris’ most celebrated courtesans. She died tragically young in 1847 at the tender age of 23. Like many in her time\, she was a victim of tuberculosis\, which at the time had no cure.   \nHer popularity and legend lived on however\, and this sadly romantic tale was dramatised just five years later by Alexandre Dumas in the novel La Dame aux Camélias\, which is known in English as Camille. Only a year later\, in 1853\, the story had been turned into an opera by Giuseppe Verdi and debuted at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice.   \nToday\, the Monte-Carlo Opera\, under the helm of Cecilia Bartoli\, is bringing this beloved favourite back to the stage. It will be directed by Bartoli’s predecessor\, Jean-Louis Grinda.  \nThe opera will serve as a vehicle to welcome the famous Spanish singer\, Placido Domingo\, back to a stage he last trod in 1996. He will be accompanied by the stunning soprano\, Aida Garifullina\, in the title role\, and Javier Camarena as Alfredo.   \nLa Traviata will be presented to audiences on 17th\, 19th\, 21st and 23rd March.  \nFor more information\, please click here.

SUMMARY:Sea urchin market: Marché de Monte-Carlo
DESCRIPTION:Fans of sea urchin have quite a treat coming their way. The weekend of 18th and 19th March has been set aside by two of Monaco’s markets to showcase that most popular of echinoderms\, giving visitors a chance to sample this luxury sea food in areas specially set up for them. \nThe Marché de Monte-Carlo will host on 18th and the Condamine Market on 19th March. \nSea urchins\, or oursin in French\, are a celebrated dish in the South of France and Monaco and festivals have cropped up everywhere to showcase them. For those unfamiliar with the urchin\, they are typically eaten raw\, like an oyster\, and have that similar fresh-from-the-sea flavour. They are often described as having a lightly sweet taste that isn’t fishy\, despite coming directly from the sea. They are rich in Vitamins C and A and are also a great source of protein. As an added bonus\, they are also rumoured to be an aphrodisiac.  \nThe menu in Monaco is simple yet scrumptious. Guests will receive a plate of six sea urchins accompanied by bread and butter for €15. Drinks are not included in the price. Reservations are required.
