High speed 4×4 causes panic at Pampelonne beach

By Staff Writer - August 8, 2016

sttrobeachAccording to witnesses, a 4×4 travelling at high speed Friday at 9:15 pm, drove along Pampelonne beach between boulevard Patch and route de Tamaris.

With the Bastille Day attack in Nice still fresh in people’s minds, the scene created chaos among the public “including children and tourists” on the beach, which can see up to 30,000 visitors a day in high season.

“The vehicle fled and panic ensued,” Nice-Matin reported. Attempts to stop the driver were unsuccessful: one person on the scene threw a fire extinguisher at the vehicle.

Despite numerous witnesses, no one was able to get the licence plate number and the driver has not been found. The gendarmerie confirmed the incident although they put it down to a drunk driver. (Source: Nice-Matin)
