Unaoil hits back at press reports

By Cassandra Tanti - June 2, 2016

MONACO BUSINESS: Responding to reports last week in Australia’s The Age newspaper, the Monaco-based Ahsani family has responded robustly to allegations that the company it controls, Unaoil, has taken part in bribing officials in oil states on behalf of oil and gas majors…

“Over the past few days grave allegations have been made against us. Unaoil and the Ahsani family take these extremely seriously and will do all that we can to defend ourselves. Many appalling things have been said about our business, allegations are being treated as fact, and speculation is rife,” the family said.

“We have been shocked by how these allegations have, without any due process, been repeated. We are determined to ensure that we are not wronged, and we are starting that process. At this point we are engaging with authorities and are considering what actions we will take.”

Apparently in order to maximise its global impact, The Age released its report in concert with the online Huffington Post. In an unusual step, the Monaco government also issued a press release in which it stated that it was cooperating with officers from the UK’s Serious Fraud Office, who had visited Monaco.
