Dan Costa, jazz pianist and composer, and a former student from the Académie de Musique Rainier III, has won a Silver Medal for Outstanding Achievement at the Global Music Awards, with the album “Suite Três Rios”, recorded in Brazil.
The album reflects the convergence of various cultural influences. Recorded in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, it recaptures the essence of Brazilian rhythms, with shades of jazz and classical music.
The name is inspired by the confluence of the Solimões and Negro Rivers in the Amazon Rainforest, known as the Encontro das águas, reflecting the album’s connection with Brazil’s rich natural diversity. It also hints at the life story of the artist, who was born in London to Portuguese and Italian parents.
After studying for six years in Monaco, Dan underwent further classical training at the Académie Internationale d’Été de Nice as well as at the Aurora Music Star Festival in Sweden.

Teens arrested in terrorist plot in Nice
The danger of more terror attacks in Nice has been underlined by the arrest of two young women in mid-September. The 19- and 17 year-old were in the later stages of planning an attack, Le Parisien said on Sunday.
The two women were in contact with Rashid Kassim, currently in Syria, the newspaper said. Although the three individuals were using the encrypted Telegram messaging platform, French intelligent services were able to identify them. One unidentified operative of the DGSI service told Le Parisien that the degree of radicalisation of the two young women was so advanced that an atrocity could be considered very likely.
Nice suffered a terror attack on Bastille Day that cost the lives of 86 people and injured 400, when Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel drove a refrigerated truck into crowds on the Promenade des Anglais.

Saint Roman roadworks reduce lanes
A one-way system will operate on part of avenue Saint Roman from October 2016 until December 2017, in order to allow for the building of a delivery area for the major Villa del Sol project, which is about to start. The construction fence will be moved to the middle of the road to avoid materials falling onto the road below and the traffic management scheme will help cars move more freely past the site, the Government has said in a press release.
Minister of State in NY for UNGA
HE Minister of State Serge Telle has told Russian news outlet Sputnik that he will accompany Prince Albert on his October visit to Moscow, during which meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other top officials are planned.
“I will accompany the Prince to Russia on October 6 in order to open a big event at the Tretyakov gallery about the historic links between the Romanovs and the Grimaldis, the Monaco royal family. We have worked quite hard on the history of the two royal families,” HE Telle said on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York last week. “We will see President Putin and many officials.”
When asked whether Monaco is considering increasing cooperation with Russia, Telle replied, “Yes, we have ideas but we will discuss it during the visit.” The minister also described the present relations between the two countries as “very good”.
The Minister of State also told Russian media outlets that although Monaco has taken in a small number of refugees, the Principality has no plans to take in more.
“The size of our territory and our population do not allow (us) to take hundreds of thousands of refugees… our part is very symbolic,” he commented.
HE Telle had earlier told the General Assembly that although Monaco is responsible for a small portion of global emissions, the country has the ambition to be a leader in energy innovation. Monaco also has committed to reduce greenhouse emissions by 50 percent from 1990 levels by 2030.
