HSH Prince Albert has written to Donald J Trump, President-elect of the United States, congratulating him on last week’s election win.
In a letter dated November 11, Prince Albert expressed his wish that “the warm relationship between our countries will continue to grow and strengthen.”
Prince Albert is half-American by background through his mother, Princess Grace, and takes a keen interest in international relations.
However, while Prince Albert is the world’s foremost advocate of environmental protection, Mr Trump occupies the other end of the spectrum and has called climate change a “hoax.”
Last month, HSH Prince Albert told the American press that Donald Trump’s views on climate change are “dangerous”. The Sovereign reportedly said: “I was pretty shocked when I heard climate change denial. It’s dangerous to have someone like this running for office, someone who can have people believing it’s all a conspiracy.”

Monaco combats violence against women
On November 25, the Principality of Monaco will be associated in a very hands-on way with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
This initiative, supported by the United Nations, will also be an opportunity to present the main initiatives and various mechanisms put in place by the State and the various associations in the Principality to combat this violence.
In addition, on November 25, 2016, a single, anonymous and free telephone number will be launched for victims of domestic violence: 116 919. An information page dedicated to victims of violence will be set up on the website of the Prince’s Government.
In order to raise public awareness, a conference on the theme “Against violence against women: all mobilised”, will take place on Friday, November 25, at 18:00, at the Auditorium of the Technical and Hotel School of Monaco, 7 Allée Lazare Sauvaigo. It will be led by Professor Alessandra Kustermann, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, an expert in the care of victims of violence. Open attendance.

Principality supports children's rights
The Principality takes part every year, under the High Patronage of S.A.S. Prince Albert II, in the International Day of the Rights of the Child.
Prince Rainier III, 20 years ago, entrusted the Directorate of National Education, Youth and Sports with the organisation of the day celebrating the anniversary of the International Convention, ratified on November 20, 1989, by the General Assembly of the United Nations.
The Directorate of National Education, Youth and Sports, with the help of heads of schools and teachers, coordinates an awareness-raising campaign in the schools during the months of October and November on the Rights of the Child.
The highlight of November 21 will be the conference (open to the public) given by Renate Winter, International Judge and Vice-President of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, at 19:00 (free admission) at the Lycée Technique Hôtelier focusing on child soldiers and child labour.
At the end of the conference, the donations collected by the pupils will be handed over this year to Mission Enfance, which is helping children in distress around the world with the main objective being education, to “Casa do Menor” in aid to the young people of the favelas of Brazil, notably by encouraging their professional integration and by “Akilah Institute for Women” which works in East Africa for the emancipation of young girls by offering them access to education.
This year, on November 24 and 25, a presentation on their important work will be made to pupils of CM1 by the presidents of the humanitarian associations based in Monaco.
The public will be able to obtain raffle tickets on the DENJS information stand on Place du Marché de la Condamine on Thursday, November 17, between 09:00 and 19:00 and in front of the Lycée Technique Hôtelier (LTHM) 21 and 22 November(1st prize: a cruise for two in a luxury cabin in the Mediterranean generously offered by Silversea Cruises).
Support will also be given to the Consul of Monaco of Madagascar to ensure the schooling of 45 Malagasy students.
Post office closures and upgrades
Postal services serving customers in the east of the Principality are to be shaken up in coming weeks. Firstly, the creation of a third window at the Places des Moulins post office will require closure for three weeks, during which time a second window will open at the Larvotto office.
Customers of La Banque Postale will be informed by e-mail and invited, as of November 15, to go to the post office of La Scala for any operation requiring bank advice.
Finally, following the restructuring of the Moulins office, the Larvotto office will be closed as part of the redevelopment of public facilities – police station and post office – next to the so-called “Palais de la Plage” construction operation. Users will be invited to use the Place des Moulins post office during this time.
Green scandal continues
The BHS scandal engulfing long-time Monaco resident Lady Tina Green and her husband Sir Philip, is showing no signs of going away.
The man who paid just one pound to buy the ailing but iconic UK high street chain from the Greens, Dominic Chappell, has been arrested on alleged tax offences. In addition to the tax authorities, the UK’s pension regulator is weighing taking action against both Chappell and Sir Philip over the 571 million pounds hole in the chain’s pensions pot, which has 20,000 members.
Sir Philip has previously said he will “sort” the pensions gap. The stores closed earlier this year with the loss of 11,000 jobs.
