Bernie Ecclestone, the supremo of Formula 1 for 40 years and a regular figure at the Monaco Grand Prix, claims he has been deposed by a major investor.

When Liberty bought an 18.5 percent stake in the sport last September, the expectation was that the 86-year-old Mr Ecclestone would stay on as Chief Executive for a further three years. However, Mr Ecclestone has been pushed upstairs and appointed as Chairman Emeritus of F1. Chase Carey, of 21st Century Fox, will take over as Chief Executive.

Mr Ecclestone said on Monday, January 23: “I was deposed today. This is official, I do not run the company any more.” Although a change at the top had been widely expected, its timing appears to have taken the sport by surprise. The new owners have spoken of “adding new dimensions to the sport”.

Monaco plays full part in WHO

Monaco Conseil Executif OMS

A Monegasque delegation, led by HE Ms Carole Lanteri, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Principality to the UN in Geneva, is taking part in the 140th session of the Executive Board of the World Health Organisation from January 23 until February 1.

In his introductory remarks in Geneva, Dr Chan, Director General of the organisation, pointed out that, in a period of increasing inequality in wealth, international public health remained a unifying force for achieving equitable social outcomes within the framework of the Sustainable Development Program to 2030.

This session of the Executive Board will also be marked by a decisive step in the process of electing the new Director General of WHO, which will culminate at the World Health Assembly in May. Discussions on budgetary issues, financing and governance of the organisation will also play an important part.

The Executive Board is one of the governing bodies of WHO, composed of 34 elected members and meeting twice a year to facilitate the work of the World Health Assembly by implementing and making recommendations to the World Health Assembly.

As a member since 1948, Monaco contributes fully to the formulation of the policies of the WHO, taking positions on the strategic orientations of the organisation and supporting resolutions of particular importance to the Principality.

The Charity Show, the 29th edition of the traditional Christmas Show entirely created by students and professors of the International Option of the Charles III College, took place at the Rainier III Auditorium on Friday, January 20.

This high-quality show, which tells the story of the “Lion King”, allowed the college students and the teaching staff to demonstrate, once again, a real talent in staging and interpretation, and all who took part demonstrated an attachment to the human values of solidarity and generosity.

This year nearly €13,000 were raised and the funds will be entirely dedicated to a major cause, that of the Preventorium, Foyer Rainier III of Madagascar. Nearly 70 children suffering from rickets and malformation are cared for at this institution. After surgery, these children are offered care and rehabilitation before returning to their families.

The Principality contributes financially to the functioning of the Home and the funds collected by the pupils of the College Charles III during the Charity Show constitute two thirds of the total grant awarded.

The Court was told that the two young men from Ariane assaulted the officers on Saturday, January 14, near La Rascasse where they had come to celebrate a birthday.

One of the victims suffered multiple fractures, head injuries and facial trauma. The officer will need three months to recover before he can return to work, the court heard.

One of the two defendants was sentenced to one year in jail and the second to ten months. “Monaco is not a jungle,” they were told by the court president.
