Monaco’s Mikkelsen wins in Corsica

andreasmiklelsonMonaco Resident Andreas Mikkelsen and his teammate Anders Jaeger have won the WRC2 Tour de Corse-Rallye de France, in their second appearance with Skoda Motorsport.

“To win was the target and I’m very pleased that we did it,” said Mr Mikkelsen after the race, during which he won all of Friday’s stages of the WRC’s opening pure asphalt round of the year.

The Mikkelsen and Jaeger team finished 1 minute and 6 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Suninen, on Friday.

“We had a good fight going with Eric Camilli on the first stages, and I know he masters these roads very well. But then he made a mistake and was out of the fight. Continuing from there it was all about controlling the drive and secure the victory,” Mr Mikkelsen added.

“I’m very grateful to Skoda Motorsport who gave us another opportunity for a drive in a great car, and I’m also happy to celebrate my WRC event number 80 with a good result.”

AeroMobil, an advanced engineering company that is commercialising a sophisticated flying supercar, will be launching its new model of the AeroMobil Flying Car at Top Marques Monaco on Thursday, April 20. The flying car was designed by Štefan Klein and was first flown in 2013.

The AeroMobil is a completely integrated aircraft as well as a fully functioning four-wheeled car, powered by hybrid propulsion. By combining aero and car functionality in perfect harmony it heralds a new era in efficient and exciting travel, offering users an unparalleled choice of transport on the road or in the air, its makers say.

The new model of AeroMobil will be the company’s first commercially available vehicle featuring hundreds of improvements, both in design and in engineering, compared to the prototype unveiled two and half years ago in Vienna, Austria. The team behind the newest AeroMobil, led by Juraj Vaculik, CEO and Douglas MacAndrew, CTO, built the vehicle in compliance with the existing regulatory frameworks for both cars and airplanes.

The Bratislava, Slovakia, based company will be exhibiting at Top Marques Monaco, looking for its first potential customers and also future investors. Top Marques Monaco, the world’s most exclusive supercar show, opens on April 20 and runs until April 23.

Monegasque Charles Leclerc has won the second round opening of the FIA Formula 2 Championship in Bahrain, the curtain raiser to the F1 race. The 19-year-old driver soon took the lead after starting in sixth place on the grid, and after a tyre change mid-race –ssomething most of his rivals chose not to do – made up the gap between 14th place and the lead in just eight laps.

A driver of the Ferrari Driver Academy, Leclerc beat Italian Luca Ghiotto into second place, and Englishman Oliver Rowland in third.

Leclerc is now at the head of the F2 championship, six points ahead of Russian Artem Markelov.
