Prince Albert has paid a two-day official visit to Slovakia this week, coinciding with a visit by members of the Monaco Economic Board seeking new business partners. The Sovereign was hosted by Slovak President Andrej Kiska, who said that he considers that “Monaco is a source of inspiration”.

Slovakia has enjoyed solid economic growth in recent years, and thanks to foreign direct investment is now the leading country in per capita automobile production in the world. Jaguar Land Rover is the latest company to announce it will open a production facility in the central European nation, which has a skilled labour force.

The economic mission orchestrated by the Monaco Economic Board then moved on to Moldova with eighteen Monegasque business leaders participating. Before leaving Slovakia, an agreement on bilateral cooperation was signed between the MEB, represented by its president Michel Dotta, and his counterpart in the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Peter Mihok.

The 10th meeting of the Assembly of the Youth Economic and Social Council was held in its premises on May 3. The meeting was chaired by Patrice Cellario, Minister of the Interior, in the presence of Isabelle Bonnal, Director of National Education, Youth and Sports and André Garino, President of the Economic and Social Council (CES).

Some thirty school students, divided into four groups, presented their wish lists: concerning the production and marketing of organic honey from Monaco; the establishment of routes allowing visitors to discover the “other face of Monaco”; the creation of a via ferrata on the Rock; a plan for a garden of therapeutic senses.

Students enrol in this optional programme at the beginning of the school year on a voluntary basis. Supervised by ESC members and lecturers, they meet with government and private officials to develop their cases. The Youth ESC was created with the aim of involving students in the future of their country as part of an educational project. It also aims to teach them values such as discussion, listening, working together and seeking consensus.

The Assembly then conveys its wishes to the Government, which, when they were feasible, endeavours to give them life.

Disappointment for AS Monaco at home against Juventus

Monaco fans were hugely disappointed on Wednesday night, after the 2-0 loss to Juventus at home in Stade Louis II in the first leg of a semi-final game in the UEFA Champions League.

Monaco’s much vaunted defence failed to stop Higuan scoring the opening goal in the 29th minute. Higuan scored again in the 59th, before being replaced in the 76th minute by Cuadrado, losing the chance of a hat trick. Monaco made more shots at goal than the visitors, but just couldn’t find the back of the net.

Germain almost scored a goal in the 90th minute from a free kick, but Buffon, the brilliant Juventus goalie, got his fingers to the high ball which slid over the bar. Monaco had lost its last chance of scoring and a consolation prize.

The two teams will meet again in six days, on May 9, for the second leg. But with Juventus having two away goals to its credit, Monaco may have to comfort themselves with taking first place in France’s Ligue 1, despite having what has been described as the most potent attack in Europe, certainly measured in goals. But it means a great deal in Monaco to finish ahead of arch-rivals PSG.

Artmonte-carlo visited by Prince, Princess Caroline

Artmonte-carlo is a new art exhibition with the intention of establishing itself on the French Riviera as a leading artistic platform for contemporary art, modern art and contemporary design, in order to meet the demands of the many collectors and art lovers in the region.

For the second edition, which took place from April 29 to 30 at Grimaldi Forum, Sabrina Monte-Carlo, associated with the prestigious B&B Italia furniture brand, tastefully decorated three relaxing areas at the forum: armchairs in the bar area, a lounge seating area within the exhibition and in the press/reading centre.

Prince Albert, accompanied by the Princess of Hanover, honoured the salon with his presence at the pre-opening on April 28.

“The event, like last year, was a real success and we are delighted to support the idea of the ‘art fair’ as ‘museums pop up art fairs’ of a controlled size, which distinguishes itself from the formats and concepts of the main traditional art fairs. Taking place in a refined and human-sized setting, artmonte-carlo is a reflexion of the place, pleasant and with international influence,” the organisers said.
