Despite outstanding successes on the pitch, AS Monaco often has trouble attracting enough spectators to home games at Stade Louis II, due to the small population of the Principality.

Government offers higher student grants to Monegasques

As part of the policy of educational excellence sought by HSH Prince Albert and the Government of Monaco, the system for granting scholarships has been supplemented to allow young Monegasque students at high-level international universities to benefit from lower tuition fees.

A list of these institutions of higher education has been drawn up using three internationally-recognised rankings: Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Rankings), QS World University Rankings (QS) and the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking,

This list of 62 international establishments was formalised by Ministerial Decree No. 2017-258 on April 21, 2017, the associated regulatory framework being specified by Ministerial Decree No. 2017-257 of the same date.

For these institutions, the state now determines the amount of the grant on the basis of actual tuition fees, with a state contribution ranging from 25 percent to 100 percent depending on the family’s circumstances.

Applications for scholarships must be sent to the Directorate of National Education, Youth and Sports by July 31, 2017, the deadline. The documents required to compile the file can be downloaded from the following links:

International Voluntary Service celebrates its 10th anniversary

Launched in 2007 by the Directorate of International Cooperation, the International Voluntary Service (VIM) programme has enabled many young people to live and work in one of the countries receiving help from Monegasque Cooperation.

To mark the 10 years of the VIM program, the DCI last week brought together a large number of volunteers who have carried out a mission since 2007, as well as some key partners who welcomed them, in the presence of the Government-Minister of External Relations and Cooperation.

Testimonies, round tables and workshops were held during the day to take stock of these ten years, to promote the programme and to help it evolve.

All the volunteers were unanimous in saying that it was an enriching life experience, both in human terms and professionally. For some, it is an intercultural experience and the opportunity to give meaning to their professional career by putting themselves at the service of others. For others, it is a stepping stone towards a career in international aid.

The aim of the VIM program is to allow young people between the ages of 21 and 35 to have professional experience of one to three years in international aid, within a structured and secure framework. For the host partners, it is a guarantee of expertise and a transfer of skills.

To date, 35 volunteers have been deployed in eight countries, mainly in Africa, in support of an international or local NGO or a UN agency. The missions entrusted are various: project coordinator, responsible for partner relations and fundraising, administrative and financial management, social worker, facilitator, nurse, occupational therapist, and more.

The Tourism and Convention Bureau carried out a successful and varied promotional tour of Brazil from May 28 to June 3 in order to promote the strategy of diversifying tourism in the Principality. The DTC has a representative office in the country.

On Sunday, May 28, 50 press guests and leisure tourism professionals were able to watch a video link to the Monaco Grand Prix of Monaco at the Cervejeria Nacional Brewery in São Paulo, next to The Ayrton Senna Foundation.

Corinne Kiabski, Head of the DTC’s Press Department and Laurence Aquilina for the Sales and Leisure Department, said that Formula 1 remains, along with Football, one of the top sports of Brazil. The six victories won by Ayrton Senna in the Principality made the Monaco Grand Prix the favourite race of the Brazilians, creating close ties between the two countries.

After two days of meetings in São Paulo, the Monegasque delegation flew to Brasilia to attend events organised with “upscale” end customers. The delegation then traveled to Rio de Janeiro for a cocktail with travel agents.

On the following days, the delegation met with agencies specialising in luxury tourism and media agencies, such as “TV Globo” – the top Brazilian communication group – to initiate new projects with Monaco. The tour ended in Curitiba, Brazil’s eighth most populous city, known worldwide for its urban planning, ecological innovations, transportation network and quality of life.

In Curitiba, the DTC delegation took part in a train tour in private coaches, specially chosen for the occasion, so that the DTC delegation could offer Brazilian travel agents and journalists the latest news of Destination Monaco in an unusual setting.

Brazil remains, despite its political problems, the ninth largest economic power in the world, and in 2017 the Brazilian economy has been moving towards economic growth. Analysts forecast growth of about two percent in 2017, before a stronger recovery in 2018.
