“Our Beach Party is unique in that it’s not actually on a beach and there are no bikinis or Speedos allowed,” according to MonacoUSA Director Annette Anderson. “But there’s a great view and it will be a party! Moreover, there’s no entrance fee and the event is open to all nationalities, not just MonacoUSA members,”

Special guests will be the team from TEDxMonteCarlo. The networking begins at 7 pm on Tuesday August 22, at Le Meridien Beach Plaza and Amber Summer will offer attendees a special 50 percent discount on wine by the glass until 9 pm. Entertainment includes a DJ and dancing plus a free tombola to win a ticket to the November 11 TEDxMonteCarlo event at Grimaldi Forum.

“Last year TEDxMonteCarlo sold out and this year they have invited more speakers and booked a larger auditorium,” Ms Anderson said. “MonacoUSA is honoured to welcome the people who organised this amazing event, which raises Monaco’s positive profile globally.”

TEDx is a global movement devoted to bringing ideas worth spreading to communities around the globe through independently organised TED-like events meant to inspire conversation, prompt innovation and create connections.

The theme of this year’s TEDxMonteCarlo is “License To Know” with Safety, Security, Transparency and Entrepreneurship as key topics of the event.

Prince’s Orchestre des Carabiniers to open Edinburgh festival

The Orchestre des Carabiniers du Prince have been invited to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, where they will play Friday night in the presence of HSH Prince Albert.

Prince Albert has been invited to give the festival’s opening salute.

The tattoo takes place every August, this year from the 4th until the 26th, as part of the Edinburgh Festival, and each year has a unique theme. For this 68th edition, it’s honouring Scotland’s Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology.

The first official tattoo took place in 1950 and some 6,000 spectators watched eight items on display. In 2017, 8,800 spectators are expected watch the event every night on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle as 1,200 performers – some 250 pipers and drummers, British Army personnel alongside other groups from the Commonwealth and military forces from France, India and the US – take to the stage.

And for the first-time Japan will be represented as the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force Central Band performs.

For one night only, on August Friday August 4, the Orchestre des Carabiniers du Prince will accompany guests from the Principality to share with the audience some of Monaco’s magic. The band documented Wednesday’s rehearsal on their Facebook page.

Some of the programme will be recorded by BBC and broadcast worldwide at a later date. Despite unpredictable skies, no performance at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has ever been cancelled.

Emin and Hirst cast Dark Shadows until September

The exhibition “Dark Shadows” continues until September 20 at 11 avenue Princesse Grace, bringing together sculpture and design that evokes the notion of darkness and its innumerable interpretations throughout history, through their form, subject, or simply their connotations.

These collected images and objects interrogate the darkness. In literature and in modern media, shadows are places of fantasy that also awaken our fears. The shadow is used here, by artists like Tracey Emin and Damien Hurst, as a starting point for a multitude of ideas for reflection thanks to contemporary works that cover a whole spectrum of abstraction and figuration.

The exhibition also includes works by Harold Ancart, Alighiero e Boetti, Mark Bradford, Cerith Wyn Evans, Günther Förg, Theater Gates, David Hammons, Pierre Jeanneret, Jannis Kounellis, Sherrie Levine , Robert Mapplethorpe, Rick Owens, Jean Prouvé, Sterling Ruby, Rudolf Stingel and Danh Vō.

Open Monday through Friday from 2 pm to 6:30 pm, and by appointment.

Government prolongs help to residents

Point presse Jardins d'Apolline 3-08-17

Jean Castellini, Minister of Finance and Economy, Rémy Rolland, Administrator of the Domains, and Albert Croesi, Head of Mission to the Minister of State in Operation Apolline, have detailed continuing financial support for residents of Jardins d’Apolline who have been displaced in order for major remedial work to be undertaken on their apartments.

The government had previously announced measures, which would remain in force in June, July and August offering rents and charges.

At a press conference on Thursday, August 3, the three officials said that from September 1, residents will pay 50 percent of their original rent, while HCC holders will receive 50 percent compensation on the amount of the rent they would have paid had they been tenants.

During the course of the work, the State will propose a solution adapted to each household. For the duration of temporary rehousing, rent and charges will not be paid whether for the apartment at the Jardins d’Apolline or the temporary accommodation. The apartments will be returned to tenants and owners as they are on the original plan.

The opportunity is being given to each tenant to choose temporary accommodation solutions, such as a second home, accommodation with relatives, or rental in adjoining communes. A flat monthly allowance will then be allocated according to the accommodation occupied at the Jardins d’Apolline: from €1,500 for two rooms up to €3,500 for four rooms.

In all cases, the costs of moving and storing furniture will be entirely the responsibility of the State.

The London office of the Tourism and Convention Bureau recently organised a successful meeting between the business tourism professionals of the British capital and several of the major tourism players in the Principality.

Guy Antognelli, Assistant to the Director of Tourism and Congress, and Nicolas Manuello, MICE sales manager of the Convention Bureau, accompanied the London office team, led by Stephan Degueurce-Roberge.

The Grimaldi Forum, SBM Monte Carlo, Fairmont, Meridian and Columbus were present, as were CMX Event Management, Lafayette Group Monaco, and Dream Catcher.

During this showcase, over a hundred entities were able to discuss new projects in a friendly atmosphere where the Mediterranean was at the centre.

The success of the event, held in Soho at the premises of the Phonica Records store, demonstrated once again the attractiveness Monaco has for this clientele and the recognition of the know-how of tourism professionals in the Principality.

The British came to Monaco in large numbers during the month of July, an encouraging sign for Destination Monaco.
