The Directorate of Action and Social Aid has held three afternoons of group training for all 53 teaching auxiliaries (Auxiliaires de Vie Scolaire) in the Principality.

This training was organised in two parts: firstly a presentation by the Directorate of National Education and Youth and Sports on the topic of the arrangements for “pupils with special needs” attending schools in the Principality, followed by a talk by Dr. Marcelline Renaud Yang, child psychiatrist and head of the Part-Time Therapeutic Reception Center (CATTP), on child and adolescent development and associated disorders.

The main tasks of an auxiliary within a school are to help the pupil in the classroom, to explain  instructions and the various tasks to be performed, to assist with school activities and to help adapt the school activities conducted by the teacher to individual needs.

The auxiliary can also play a role in the social life of the child and can help in situations of isolation or conflict. The personnel work to foster student confidence and encourage direct, individual or group exchanges and student interaction.

Supervision of the auxiliaries is carried out by the Division of Social Inclusion and Disability of the Directorate of Action and Social Aid.
