MyMonacoStyle Weekend Report

There’s no denying it! Winter is here. The only florals I want to see are in the lobby of Hotel de Paris. The rules of the game are getting more difficult, or easy, depending on your everyday style know-how.

When in doubt, doll up in Dior. In confidence carry Chanel. In Monaco, the temperatures are the least of the harshness you might be prone to on the streets, but have no fear darlings, I’m giving you a few gems of stylistic advice in the form of prime examples of fashion competency. So pay attention, because the game may be TBC but the referee is always watching whistle in hand.

Italian Fashionista

Italian Fashionista

@italianfashionista Someone’s back in town and still as stylish as ever. Favourite fashion mum known by her online moniker “Italian Fashionista” showed us how to be not so basic in some basics. If at this point of the year you still don’t own anything from this Alessandro Michele era at Gucci, darling you’re out.

She rocked the Trouble Andrew Gucci Ghost collaboration T-shirt from Gucci underneath a black sweater. Easy peasy. With the logo mania craze still going strong this winter this Italian Fashionista proudly displayed her logo of choice with a pair of Chanel sneakers perfect for running around the Principality for a bit of shopping and a holiday special at Starbucks. Are those black nails I spy? I do love an edgy mum.

Mrs. BC World

Mrs BC World

@mrs_bcworld My, this does seem to be the week of online aliases. But who cares when you’ve got a closet full of the only names you need to know? Mrs BC caught a cute little sunset but the real show was her.

A white Fendi overcoat amongst the artificial winter wonderland created at Casino Square, paired with AG jeans showed that luxury doesn’t always have to be in your face and gauche. Luxury should be leisurely at times. A black Lady Dior with gold hardware complimented her gold Rolex and Gucci Princetown loafers with golden bee motifs. I do love a well-coordinated outfit.

Hugo Bayle

Hugo Bayle

@hugobayle And now for our golden boy of the week, Hugo Bayle. Guys pull out your Moleskines and take some notes because the only sweats I’m allowing this season are Gucci … or Vetements … or Balenciaga.

Okay, so back to Hugo. Peep that Tagliatore 6-button blazer. If you don’t have a navy blazer yet … you’re out. He adds a bit of flair with shirt and pocket square arranged just so from Cremieux and Breuer while at Le Grill at Hotel de Paris. In a sartorial twist, he opted for camo cargo pants from Mason’s. Okay so while cargo /camo pants are usually always a no for me somehow being paired with a more formal vibe cancels out my hate. Add a pair of classic Church’s shoes and you can’t go wrong.

Also it doesn’t hurt if you are somewhat handsome as well …then you can get away (to some degree) with whatever fashion you wish. But seriously Mr Bayle, after creeping your Instagram wardrobe, friends and family may be foregoing gifts this year while I do a little style self-maintenance.

Lipkine

Lipkine

@lipkine Ever wanted a tutorial on how to nail that much coveted off-duty model style? Well here you go. Step 1. Wear black. Love this cute little black cardigan from Zara she’s rocking around Monaco. The key with fast fashion is to pair it with lux labels. Dolce Gabbana sunglasses and a Chanel mini bag give it glossy sheen.

Black skinny jeans are a wardrobe staple, they go with everything and to update this classic this season, make sure the ends are frayed for that grungy glamour. Bottom it off with a pair of black boots, if Doc Martens are a bit too common for you go for studded Saint Laurent ones like she does. Nobody will mistake you for jumping into a mosh pit in these.

Nera Lesic

Nera Lesic

@regina_del_bianco This model and student and model student shows us another way to go back to black. Updated for the evening, Nera looks super glam outside the casino. With a chill in the air her Louis Vuitton silk scarf offers some chic protection from outside elements although I can’t say the same for her jumpsuit. A sparkling belt adds a bit of starlight shine to the black backdrop of her outfit.

Paired with a black Lady Dior bag (definitely the bag of the season ) and Valentino Rockstud heels, Nera looks ready to rock around the Christmas tree. A bold red lip is a bold move while most are riding the nudes train. Darling, now that the photo’s been taken, do bundle up.

Over the years, Monaco has established itself as the top destination for many international events, and it comes as no surprise – given the Principality’s renown for the finest dining it offers – that Monte-Carlo is the venue for the Chefs’ World Summit.

The event started on Sunday at 2 pm at the Grimaldi Forum followed by the official opening ceremony at 7 pm. More than 100 chefs with stars to their name, and representing 34 countries, will be taking part in a wide range of discussions and demonstrations on Monday, November 27, and Tuesday, November 28.

At the Gala Sunday evening, French chef Michel Troisgros of Maison Troisgros was voted the top chef of 2018 in a list that ranks the best 100 chefs around the world.

Organised by Le Chef Magazine,”The 100 Chefs” is the world’s only chefs by chefs ranking. The anonymous vote by 2- and 3-star chefs from around the world names five international chefs who best represent the values of their profession; who create exceptional, must-try cuisine; and whose restaurants are must-visit destinations.

Michel Troisgros of Maison Troisgros (France) ranked first (also his first time in the Top 10). French chef Arnaud Donckele and the Italian chef Enrico Crippa are also in the Top Ten. Norway enters for the first time in the Top 100 with the Esben Hilmboe Bang.

Between 2015 and 2017, the top ranking countries were France, Japan, USA, Italy and Spain, however, the 2018 list sees Spain in second place tied with Japan.

There was also a rise in French chefs from 31 in 2015 to 41 in 2018. Among the new French chefs ranked for the first time are Michel Trama, Marc Veyrat, Patrick Henriroux, Frédéric Anton, Arnaud Faye and Serge Vieira.

Top Ten 100 Chefs
1. Michel Troisgros, Maison Troisgros – France
2. Yannick Alleno, Alleno Paris – France
3. Joan Roca, El Celler De Can Roca – Spain
4. Arnaud Donckele – Residence De La Pinede – France
5. Pierre Gagnaire, Restaurant Pierre Gagnaire – France
6. Emmanuel Renaut, Flocons De Sel – France
7. Enrico Crippa, Piazza Duomo – Italy
8. Pascal Barbot, L’astrance – France
9. Seiji Yamamoto, Nihonryori Ryugin – Japan

A full list of the 100 chefs can be read here.

Over the next two days, more than 1,500 chefs and other professionals will be present at the Summit, at which 150 exceptional food and drinks brands will also be represented.

A hundred or so highly acclaimed speakers will each have their turn at round-table discussions and during live-demos to touch on the latest trends in the industry, from environmentally-friendly cuisine to the transformation of the chef-sommelier duo.

Cooking demonstrations and exclusive dinners will also provide opportunities to share experiences and to inspire new generations of professionals in the restaurant industry, the organisers say.

The Chefs’ World Summit is the new international hub for the food and catering industry, with the world’s most distinguished chefs brought together in one exceptional location, Monte-Carlo.

Director of Tourism removed from position, “not deprived of right to stand for election,” says Government

According to Sovereign Order published in the Journal de Monaco on November 24, 2017, Guillaume Rose, Director of the Tourism and Convention Office of Monaco, has lost his job.

The decree No. 6.678, relating to the transferring of an official, stated, “Mr. Guillaume Rose, Director of Tourism and Congress, is transferred, in the interests of service, as Technical Advisor to the Directorate of Human Resources and Training of Public Service.”

The move comes after Mr Rose was named as an official candidate on the Primo! party list for the national elections, which take place February 11, 2018.

Prince Albert, having considered the deliberation of the Council of Government on November 23, as presented by the Minister of State, felt, by order of decree, that Mr Rose’s position was a conflict of interest.

Primo! is the party set up by Stéphane Valeri, who was President of the Conseil National from 2003 to 2010. He was then appointed Minister of Health and Social Affairs by Prince Albert in 2010, and resigned from this post on May 24 of this year.

Mr Rose, 48, was appointed Director on October 15, 2011. At the time, he was a national councillor – Chairman of the Social Interests and Diverse Business Committee – which he had held since 2008. (He lost his seat by election in 2013.)

On Sunday, November 26, the Government issued a press statement on taking issue with reports that Mr Rose has been deprived of his rights to stand for election.

The statement read: “Contrary to what has been communicated, Guillaume Rose is not being deprived of the right to stand for election in the Monegasque polls.

“During the campaign period, he is in a position to free himself from his obligation to refrain from political activities, which is imposed upon members of the senior civil service, of which he is a member.

“It is surprising that he should express his surprise, while his attention was repeatedly drawn to his situation and that solutions had been proposed to him.

“Mr Rose could have avoided being transferred in the interest of the service (with the retention of his full salary) if he had opted for one of the several proposals that had been made to him, namely to take leave for exceptional or personal reasons. He could also have been released from his obligations while retaining his title and salary.

“The measures that apply to him are not personal or as a target on a list, but rather they correspond to the impartiality expected of members of the senior civil service, which apply in all similar situations.”

It’s a race to the 2018 elections. Unlike the French elections, in Monaco there is only one round of voting, for which any Monegasque over the age 18 can cast a ballot.

Seats are attributed by a mixture of “first past the post” and proportional representation, that is 16 seats out of the total 24 are attributed to the party that receives the majority, and the remaining 8 seats by proportional representation.

HSH Prince Albert is now able to add the initials OLY to his name, in recognition of his personal experiences and achievements as an Olympic competitor.

The World Olympians Association (WOA) introduced the designation to help gain lasting worldwide recognition for its members.

A patron of the Association, Prince Albert represented Monaco in bobsleigh events at five consecutive Olympic Winter Games. On Thursday, November 23, the Prince, accepted the certificate recognising his OLY status from the hands of WOA President Joel Bouzou at the Prince’s Palace.

The Prince said: “I feel proud and honoured to receive this certificate under my athlete name, Albert Grimaldi OLY. Like many other athletes I trained hard for many years before reaching the Olympic Games and becoming an Olympian.

“As much as the goal, I treasured this journey, which taught me how to dedicate myself and build up an open-minded character. Therefore, I greatly support this initiative, which will promote the skills of many Olympians and help them find opportunities in society after the end of their sports career.”

So far more than 3,000 Olympians have registered to add OLY to their names since the scheme’s launch earlier in November at the eighth International Olympic Committee Forum in Lausanne.

OLY was created not only as recognition of past achievements, but also to promote Olympians’ social, charitable and community-based work and to act as a reminder of their responsibility to represent Olympic values in everyday life.

Prince Albert inspects caissons for land extension

Prince Albert visited the Industrial Port of Marseille on Friday, November 24, where the company Bouygues TP is building major components as part of the infrastructure for the future land extension at Anse du Portier in Monaco.

The Sovereign Prince was able to inspect at close hand the detailed work that goes into the manufacture of the caissons.

This new district off Larvotto will be protected from the effects of waves by a belt of these large watertight chambers. Each has a box structure, 56m long x 50m wide x 27m high. This is the first time such a massive structure of this kind has been built in France.

The caissons have been designed and developed to meet the precise needs of the Monaco construction site. In total, 18 caissons, each weighing 10,000 tonnes, will be manufactured.

A technique of continuous concrete pouring by means of sliding formwork is being used to allow the construction of each box in one piece.

The Prince has been in constant contact with the teams working on the caissons and has been following progress very closely.

Seven hundred people are employed in Marseille and the region for these operations.
