Mayor Georges Marsan welcomed the press in the Marriage Room of the Town Hall on Friday, December 19, where he expressed his and the town council’s best wishes for the coming year.

Joining the mayor were council members Marjorie Crovett-Harroch, Françoise Gamerdinger, Nicolas Croesi, Henry Doria, Chloé Boscagli-Leclercq and Axelle Amalberti-Verdino.

Mayor Marsan spoke of the excellent collaboration that exists between the Town Hall and the local media, links that largely contribute to the success of the many municipal projects undertaken throughout the year.

Georges Marsan also congratulated the Communal Council and the municipal staff for a very successful 2017, before announcing upcoming projects for this New Year.

Following the national elections that will take place on February 11, and for which the Town Hall has been preparing for several weeks, several new projects will take shape in 2018.

Work to the Hall of the mairie is due to end in May, a project that will preserve its historical aspect.

The opening of the new municipal sports hall adjacent to the Rainier III Nautical Stadium is planned for the spring and will welcome the public to brand new premises equipped with quality machines, at a very competitive price. A new e-administration system, including online access to vital records, highly anticipated by users, will be operational in the next few weeks.

Whether it is the International Professional Training for Choir Artists (FIPAC) jointly conducted by the Rainier III Academy, the Monte-Carlo Opera and the Rotary Club of Monaco, the commemorations of the 250th anniversary of the artist François-Joseph Bosio, and the particularly active involvement of the Ecole Supérieure d’Arts Plastiques-Pavillon Bosio in this project, or the organisation of the first book fair by the Monaco Media Library, culture will again be very active in 2018.

The same goes for entertainment, with the promise of concerts and shows at the Espace Léo Ferré, which will open its programme at the end of March with the duo Brigitte; the second edition of the Jardin Exotic party in the month of June and many other events that will be offered throughout the year.

At the end of his speech, the Mayor returned to the recent exchanges between the Communal Institution and the Government concerning the cable car (télécabine) project that will inevitably impact the future of the Exotic Garden. Georges Marsan has confirmed the concerns of the Communal Council, and the will of elected officials to make their voices heard on this subject.

Two free Monaco Media Library events take place Monday, January 22: at 3 pm, a writing break animated by Eric Lafitte at the Louis Notari L, and at 7 pm, photographic ballads presented by Adrien Rebaudo will be at the José Notari Library.

On Friday, Prince Albert and Princess Stephanie, alongside her children Louis and Pauline, opened the 42nd International Circus Festival in Monte-Carlo.

This year, the festival celebrates 250 years of the “modern circus”. It was in 1768 when a young equestrian named Philip Astley performed in London, in a field near Westminster Bridge, on a circular ring 13 metres in diameter. His equestrian show mixed acts from the fair – jugglers, equilibrists, funambulists and even trained dogs and monkeys – and modern circus was born on horseback.

The International Circus Festival in Monte-Carlo will host a gala evening on Tuesday, January 23, to present the gold, silver and bronze Clown Awards. Circus performances will continue until Sunday, January 28, with the winner”s show.
