The Monaco Economic Board (MEB) held its General Assembly on Thursday, March 22, with more than 200 participants, member entrepreneurs, institutional partners and many personalities present.
The 2017 balance sheet and 2018 outlook were presented for the first time in the form of video reports and all the proposals were approved. At the end of the General Assembly, Jean Castellini, Minister of Finance and Economy, recalled the strong support of the Government for MEB activities and the essential role of entrepreneurs for the prosperity of the Principality.
Seven economic missions were organised abroad in 2017 – a record – for a total of 160 participating business leaders, 409 contacts, 86 initiated projects and a satisfaction rate of 95 percent. Eleven receptions were held for foreign delegations and eight economic conferences were also organised in the Principality.

In addition, the sixth edition of the Eco Club Awards brought to light six outstanding entrepreneurs from Monaco, companies that sometimes prove to be world leaders in niche markets.
During 2018, highlights will include economic missions to Stockholm (March 26/28), Frankfurt (June), Beijing (September) and Hanoi (November). Other promotional activities are also planned in Singapore, Dubai, Trieste, Milan and Warsaw.
On the communication side, the MEB is considering a mobile application dedicated primarily to its members.
The MEB also has an eye on 2019, the year of its 20th anniversary. On this occasion, rather than looking back, it will propose to its members and partners to think about the outlook for the economy of Monaco in 10 years’ time.
The Monaco Yacht Club (YCM) and Bluewater have joined forces to organise a competition for superyacht chefs on April 5.
Over three rounds of 30 minutes, three chefs will each prepare an original dish, at workstations replicating the reduced kitchen areas they operate in on yachts. Contestants will be judged, by a jury chaired by Prince Albert, on their creativity, use of produce, presentation and taste. The three chefs with the highest scores will compete in the grand finale, at 3 pm, for the Lalique Trophy, which will be presented by His Serene Highness.
“L’Art de Vivre la Mer is our motto,” said Bernard d’Alessandri, General Secretary of the Yacht Club de Monaco. “In keeping with the competition that we organise for chefs every two years during Monaco Classic Week – La Belle Classe, we want to pay tribute to these professionals who put their talents and culinary artistry at the service of owners. Promoting yachting professions to the general public is an important objective for us in our desire to position Monaco as Capital of Yachting.”
For the 2018 edition, 12 chefs will go head-to-head on superyachts from 40-105m, five flying the Yacht Club de Monaco flag: Rola (47m), Black Legend (50m), Sokar (64m), Royal Romance (92m) and the iconic Lady Moura (105m).
The Jury includes Stéphane Raimbault (two Michelin stars, Oasis restaurant in Mandelieu); Michelin star chef Jacques Maximin (two-time Chef of the Year and Meilleur Ouvrier de France); Michelin star chef Patrick Raingeard (Cap Estel in Eze); Philippe Joannés (Meilleur Ouvrier de France, Fairmont Monte Carlo); and Cédric Seguela (founder of the Secrets de Cuisine culinary school that trains superyacht chefs).
“We are delighted to partner with YCM for the first time with our world-famous Superyacht Chef Competition,” commented Peter Bennett, Founder and Managing Director of Bluewater.
“Now in its 9th year, we are continually amazed at the talent of the yacht chefs and what they are able to create from a limited selection of surprise ingredients, in just 30 minutes. The competition is growing, the pressure is on, and with this exciting jury line-up we hope the chefs are ready to create dishes that will make them stand out from the rest.”
The Superyacht Chef Competition takes place at the Monaco Yacht Club, from 11 am to 5 pm, and is open to the public.

On the occasion of the launch of the International Decade of Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028, the Permanent Mission of Monaco to the United Nations (UN) expressed the Principality’s concerns regarding the important issues and challenges facing the international community.
Underlining its importance, the event was attended by the President of the General Assembly, HE Miroslav Lajčák, and the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.
The Monaco Mission highlighted the actions taken by the Monegasque authorities to reduce and control the national consumption of water. Also highlighted was Monaco’s commitment at the international level, in particular through its financial support of numerous cooperation projects, such as those promoting access to drinking water for vulnerable populations or those promoting sustainable management of this problem.
Later in the day, on the occasion of the UN Press Correspondents Association evening, the Principality awarded the Prince Albert II Prize, which recognises the best journalistic coverage of UN activities highlighting climate change, biodiversity and water.

O M G. What a weekend! I think I’m going to need a whole week to decompress from it. Where do I begin!? Uncle Karl (Lagerfeld) was in town for the Bal de Rose! Speaking of the Bal de la Rose the haute couture fantasy was in full effect!
Don’t ask me for my best dressed, it would be impossible to decide. Princess Caroline in CHANEL! Charlotte Casiraghi in SAINT LAURENT! Speaking of Charlotte Casiraghi … she is rumoured to have announced her ENGAGEMENT to Dimitri Rassam Saturday night (FINALLY). I so ship this couple.
It would seem fitting on the weekend of one of Monaco’s most fashionable events that the town would be brimming with street style. It wasn’t just brimming … it overflowed. Here are my favourite pre- and post-Bal de Rose style moments from this weekend.
@karolinasfairytale In Europe since the time of the great Roman Emperors, the colour purple has come to represent royalty, wealth, and extravagance. It seems only fitting that the wife of “The Bill Gates of The Alps” would wear it. Casually on a balcony at the Hermitage, Karolina does not go unnoticed in a purple Versace suit while casually sipping tea, although she has been known to spill some piping hot as well (we’ll never forget the Instagram cat fight with a certain German designer’s ex …).
As usual, style never sleeps with the conspicuous Zubkova-Mattes and possibly neither does she as she was spotted the next day after a late night at the Bal de Rose climbing into her bright pink Audi R8 …in bright yellow high heels, of course. In the library that is Monaco fashion, my favourite book by far is the fairy tale of Karolina.
Sylwia
@sylwia_k__ Giving a whole new dimension to the term “Foxy Mama” this mother of two donned a fur gilet paired with a beige ensemble from La Promesse. A fashionista mum out in the wild environment of Monaco is useless without protection from judging eyes and Slywia is well-equipped with her Louis Vuitton Monogram Concorde bag and Louis Vuitton Star Trail lace up boots guaranteed to make even the most aggressive of style predators end up as prey. Like most beautiful and wild animals, look but don’t touch.
Bryan
@murdabryan_ Bryan oh Bryan, we had so many good things to say about your amazing personal style and the way you pair streetwear and luxury brands (these days they are one and the same), from your Moncler puffer to your Balenciaga Triple S Sneakers but you blocked us on Instagram. Don’t worry, perhaps you dodged a future bullet. The end.
Kerry Tetro
@kerry_tetro I wish everyone could take mirror selfies as well as Kerry. Instead my feed is still full of dirty toothpaste stained mirrors, blurry pictures and bad angles. I’m kinda obsessed at how casual this outfit appears but at closer inspection, of course, it all luxed out. Everything about this look is on point, from the super on the trend retro cat-eye sunglasses to the casually undone just so trench coat over a Gucci t-shirt. Add to that a Hermès Evelyne bag thrown over the shoulder and voila, you’ve got a look that says, “I want to blend in but if you happen to notice me it’s not my fault if you get jealous.” I noticed. I’m jealous.
Helena
@helenatoe HELENA HAS FUN her Instagram proclaims and I’ll second that proclamation after a quick scroll through her feed. This blonde bombshell touched down in Côte d’Azur and hit the ground running in the style marathon that is life here. Helena enjoyed the sunshine in Monaco in a navy blue silk floral blazer paired with white just-so-frayed jeans that grazed her oxblood ankle boots. See guys, sometimes style can be as simple as a blazer jeans and boots! I mean if you’ve got Helena’s genetics that’s not a bad thing as well.
World Theatre Day, which was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute, takes place on Tuesday, March 27, and will be celebrated at the Princesse Grace Theatre.
Five theatre companies from the Principality have responded to an invitation to participate, and will perform in a night dedicated to the performing arts and the promotion of dialogue and peace between peoples.
The programme, which begins at 8 pm, includes Ciel ma Femme, Harcele-Manque, Un souffleur sachant jouer, Nous, Oiseaux Migrateurs, and 53 Years.
World Theatre Day is honoured every year by the theatre community through numerous national and international events and in Monaco, the Department of Cultural Affairs brings together the Monegasque National Commission for UNESCO and the Theatre Princesse Grace to celebrate the day.
