Compagnie Monégasque de Banque (CMB) celebrated the second graduation ceremony of the Academy Women and Finance on March 27, at which all twenty participants were awarded a diploma.

Marie-Hélène Parisi founded the CMB Academy in 2016, based on the observation that a woman may need to take on the reins of family or entrepreneurial finance in the course of her life. The Academy Women and Finance is an educational programme aimed to empower female clients to assume responsibility for the management of family wealth.

The training programme makes CMB a pioneer in the field. “It is the first Private Bank to offer such a structured academic programme to its clients,” said Werner Peyer, CEO of the bank.

The nine modules completed by the participants over the course of one year enable them to take on a leading role in managing family wealth. Topics include financial markets, asset allocation, and behavioural finance covered in 27 hours of lessons.

“Our students are highly motivated,” said Ms Parisi. “Their desire to learn and their ability to understand complex mechanisms have made the session a real success.”

The Quatuor Jaëlle – a female string quartet supported by CMB and an official partner of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Monte-Carlo – provided the musical background for the occasion.

Grimaldi Forum to be major power producer for Monaco’s new eco-district

The Grimaldi Forum and the Monaco Electricity and Gas Company (SMEG) have worked in partnership for a number of years in favour of energy transition. This partnership continues this year with the upcoming installation of a photovoltaic production plant on the roof of the building.

This major project is part of the proactive policy of the Government of Monaco, which has implemented a financial incentive measure for the production of photovoltaic electricity and an online solar cadastre.

The photovoltaic installation on the Grimaldi Forum will be installed and operated by SMEG through the signature of a “SunE” contract. The Grimaldi Forum’s 2,470 sqm solar power station will be the largest in size and power in the Principality – its 600 MWh of annual production is the equivalent of the electricity consumed by a hundred dwellings – making the centre of congresses and Monaco culture the number-one producer of green energy in the Principality.

The operation is an anticipation of the integration of the Grimaldi Forum within the eco-district of the future extension at sea, the urbanisation that will see a reclaimed area emerge of six hectares. The Grimaldi Forum solar power plant will supply green electricity to this complex, a concrete example of the National Pact that the Sovereign Prince wants.

The Grimaldi Forum, which has been ISO 14001 certified since October 2008 and has thus long been involved in energy transition, is fully committed to this progress and is contributing without delay to the Principality’s ambitious objectives.

Economic Mission in Stockholm results in very encouraging contacts

The Monaco Economic Board held an economic mission in the Swedish capital from March 26 to 28. The Monegasque delegation consisted of 17 people from 10 companies representing the sectors of banking and finance, IT, consulting and energy. This was an intense and fruitful mission that will undoubtedly contribute to ongoing exchanges between the two countries.

Operating on a tight schedule, the delegation of entrepreneurs was able to establish many high quality contacts. The Consul of Monaco in Stockholm, Olof Carl Sjöström, played an important part in the success of the mission.

Most of the events took place on Tuesday, March 27, beginning with bilateral presentations in the morning. Olle Zetemberg, Director of the Stockholm Business Region promotion agency, put Sweden’s macroeconomic features in perspective, with a strong inclination towards innovation. Not only Ericsson and Ikea but also Spotify and Skype were born in Sweden.

For their part, the Scandinavians were able to discover a welcoming and dynamic Principality, far removed from usual clichés.

The members of the Monegasque delegation were then able to get to the heart of the subject during a B2B session which brought together about sixty men and women in business. As an example, Jean-Charles Harle and Pierfranck Pelacchi of the Monaco Electricity and Gas Company (SMEG) were able to meet their Swedish counterparts in Vattenfall, who are very committed to the Smart City initiative, and therefore in step with the aspirations of the Principality.

The afternoon was devoted to visiting the Royal Sea Port district, an old industrial port the size of the Principality, which is currently undergoing redevelopment and is a very advanced experimental area, exemplary in terms of sustainable urban development.

Despite their differences, Sweden and Monaco look to the future in the same direction, a future that will bring them closer together thanks to the many links that materialised during this economic mission.

Two spring productions for Ballets

The Ballets de Monte-Carlo will be offering a program for spring 2018 composed of two ballets. The first, from April 26 to 29, Abstract/Life, a creation of Jean-Christophe Maillot, takes up the idea of a vast concerto, this time for cello and orchestra.

The score of Bruno Mantovani was commissioned by Marc Monnet, Artistic Advisor of the Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival. Sensitive to the way in which Jean-Christophe Maillot accommodates all types of music, the composer created contrasts and moments of waiting then submitted his piece to the choreographer with whom he has already collaborated in 2004 on the superb ballet Miniatures.

The second ballet, Violin Concerto, composed by Stravinsky, marks the return of Balanchine. The Ballets de Monte-Carlo, which have presented 19 ballets of “Mister B”, is among the best companies that have performed it.

The choreographer, who refused to speak about his works in terms of preference, himself agreed to say of this Violin Concerto that it was “well done”, that is to say that he had reached, technically, a “certain” point of accomplishment.
