As part of the international and ongoing activities of the MONEYVAL Committee of Experts, a workshop was held in Monaco on April 9 and 10 by SICCFIN, the Principality’s financial regulations enforcement authority. This workshop brought together financial intelligence units with missions identical to those of SICCFIN and represented a dozen countries, financial centres, members of MONEYVAL and FATF.

Commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of François-Joseph Bosio
Just over 250 years ago, on March 19, 1768, Giuseppe Francesco Bosio was born in Monaco. Better known under the name of François-Joseph Bosio, he became a Monegasque sculptor of international renown.
At the initiative of the Department of the Interior, the Prince’s Government wishes to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of this Monegasque sculptor, who in France was honoured with the title of “First Sculptor of the King”, in order to better promote the cultural heritage of Monaco.
To mark this anniversary and raise awareness of the work of François-Joseph Bosio, several events are scheduled for 2018, including three episodes of the “d’Art d’Art” programme on France 2 and TV5 Monde, devoted to three works by Bosio; a commemorative stamp, with a face value of 0.95 euros, representing the sculptor and one of his major works; the striking of a commemorative coin of two euros, in the quality of Belle Epreuve, representing Bosio and one of his most famous works: The Nymph Salmacis. This coin is issued by the Museum of Stamps and Coins via its website www.mtm-monaco.mc.
The New National Museum of Monaco invited the artist Oliver Laric to produce a version based on the scanning of the original marble of La Nymphe Salmacis, held by the Museum. This work, in polyurethane resin, will be exhibited at Villa Paloma until August 26.
The exhibition “François-Joseph Bosio, Monegasque sculptor” will take place from June 14 to October 14, in the Palais Princier.
The Minister of State, together with Jean Castellini, Minister of Finance and Economy, Albert Croesi, in charge of the Mission to the Minister of State for Operation Apolline, and Robert Colle, Secretary General of the Government, spoke about the Government’s housing policy during a breakfast with the press on Thursday morning, April 12.
Regarding the Jardins d’Apolline, the Minister of State said that 45 apartments will be delivered at the same time as the renovation work is completed, without affecting the deadlines already announced and pending judicial proceedings.
He added: “In addition, the Government is considering a project, Testimonio 3, which would consist of adding a programme in the extension of Testimonio 2, as the Sovereign Prince also wished.”
Jean Castellini said: “In addition to major operations, the Government is working on intermediate solutions based on smaller operations and the development of mobility, including through exchanges. The policy has led, between 2013 and 2018, to the delivery of 552 new apartments, an average of 110 per year, an effort that continues over the period 2018-2021 with the delivery of 451 new homes.
In conclusion, the Minister of State recalled that the Government’s ambition was to fully meet the housing needs of Monegasques in the coming years while sustaining the existing social model, a model in full evolution, due, in particular, to population growth.
Under the High Patronage of His Serene Highness, the Transition Monaco Forum, a new global platform committed to accelerating the transition towards a clean future across all sectors and industries, will convene 500 global influencers, decision makers and innovators at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco from June 26-27.
The inaugural and invitation-only conference, which Arnold Schwarzenegger will also attending, will present five key enablers that are needed to strengthen the cleantech ecosystem: the role of cities and territories, finance, regulation, innovation and new stakeholders.
Through this holistic approach, the overall objective of the platform is to act as a catalyst to foster partnerships and strategic investments, which can speed up the mainstreaming of innovations at the epicentre of the transition. As a global leader of this transition, China will be highlighted as the country of honour during this first edition in Monaco.
Prince Albert, who will give the welcome address on June 26, described the event as an opportunity to lay out the strategies for a clean future: “I’m pleased to welcome Transition Monaco Forum. In the Principality of Monaco, we promote renewable energies, clean mobility, and energy efficiency. These actions, which are essential to act against climate change, are relayed at the international level by my Foundation. We need initiatives like this to accelerate global efforts to build a new non-carbonated energy model that does not threaten the future of our planet.”
“We are extremely grateful to His Serene Highness for his support,” said Lionel le Maux, President, Aqua Asset Management and co-founder of the Transition Monaco Forum. “We are on the cusp of a major evolution. When we speak about the transition, it is not just about clean energy – we’re going to see a complete economic transition that will force all sectors and industries to transform and develop more sustainable business models to flourish while combating climate change.”
Le Maux added, “Through Transition Monaco Forum, an investment and action-oriented platform, we intend to form a multi-stakeholder coalition to speed up the commercial deployment of innovative, clean and sustainable solutions while optimising returns for investors.”
The Forum will be produced by Richard Attias & Associates, part of WPP.
