An original Ayrton Senna driver’s helmet could sell for six figures at auction at Bonham’s Goodwood Festival of Speed auction on July 13, thedrive.com reports. The estimated price is between $79,000 and $110,000, the auctioneers say.

The F1 legend is said too have worn the helmet during a practice session at the Paul Ricard Circuit on March 2, 1994, just two months before a tragic crash took his life at the age of 34.

The Bell Vortex type SS Penske 93/94 helmet comes complete with intercom and headphones, a Bell helmet bag, and a signed letter from Pierre Van Ginneken certifying the helmet’s authenticity.

At the RM Sotheby’s Monaco auction earlier this year, Senna’s yellow Lotus Honda racing suit sold for 38,400 euros ($44,767), while his 1993 Monaco Grand Prix-winning McLaren car sold for $5 million.

In the south-east, the biggest weather challenge over the next two weeks will be high night-time temperatures, which will offer only very limited relief from 29 and 30-degree weather forecast for Monaco during the day.

From Tuesday, July 10, through Tuesday, July 17, overnight temperatures of 24 celsius are expected.

ATC disruption set to last all summer

Nice Airport

On and off air traffic control strikes in France are set to continue throughout the summer, causing considerably more disruption than in 2017.

Low-cost carrier easyJet, the largest operator by passenger numbers at Nice Airport, has warned passengers of cancellations at short notice.
“We have been advised of possible industrial action by French air traffic control throughout summer 2018. Unfortunately due to the nature of the strike action we may only receive notification of any possible disruption at late notice. We will publish any information regarding specific disruption on our Latest Travel Information Page and on our Flight Tracker.

“Like all airlines, our flights to and from France, as well as those flying in French airspace, could be affected. Also flights that do not operate through France may still be affected as 65 percent of easyJet flights operate through French air space,” easyJet said.

Meanwhile, Ryanair has reported that it cancelled more than 1,100 flights in June due to air traffic control strikes and staff shortages among air traffic controllers. The airline cancelled only 41 flights in June last year.

Ryanair has again appealed for intervention by the European Commission: “Ryanair calls for urgent action by the EU Commission and European governments to ameliorate the effect of ATC strikes and staff shortages in the UK, Germany and France from disrupting the travel plans of millions of Europe’s consumers this summer.”

Memorial plaque emphasises Menton’s historic ties with Monaco

Monaco marina

A memorial stone has been unveiled in Menton in homage to eight Monaco citizens who died in an epic naval encounter on October 7, 1571, the Battle of Lepanto, local French-Language daily Monaco Matin reports.

With the town of Menton still part of Monaco, a state of affairs that lasted until 1861, two ships from Monaco were part of the Catholic European fleet that won the sea battle with the Ottoman Turks, a victory of monumental historic importance.

In the presence of HSH Prince Albert, the Mayor of Menton, Jean-Claude Guibal, said at the unveiling ceremony on the recently refurbished Fontana Square: “They were eighteen men from Menton on the two galleys, the Capitoline and the Patrone, who took part in this monumental battle. The friendship between Menton and the Principality has continued since that time. It existed territorially. It continues today, emotionally, culturally and economically.”

For his part, Prince Albert described the confrontation with the Turkish forces “a clash of civilisations.”

Few places remain for JCE’s Business Time

There are only a few places left for the Principality’s famous networking evening on Thursday, July 5: Business Time, organised by Monaco’s Junior Chamber of Commerce.

The venue is the Riva Tunnel on Port Hercule to meet three experts from a sector of excellence in Monaco who will discuss “the place of yachting in Monaco.”

Riva, an iconic builder of boats since 1842, has always linked the crafts of art and design. By building the mythical Aquarama in the sixties and thanks to his perfectionist and meticulous work, Carlo Riva – raised the brand that bears his name to the highest level and thus create a real Riva Myth. His daughter, Mrs Lia Riva, continues her masterpiece in Monaco and the Junior Chamber said it is honoured to be here to present the Tunnel that bears her name and whose history is closely linked to that of Monaco.

Partner to Gordon Blair, Edouard Mousny is also vice-chairman of the Cluster Yachting Club of Monaco. In particular, he works to simplify the current regulations, which can curb some shipowners.

General Manager of the Monaco Yacht Show, Gaëlle Tallarida is constantly striving for excellence to develop what has become the world’s largest superyacht show. Listening attentively to a demanding market, an international promotion targeting private customers is the basis of the strategy orchestrated by Gaëlle Tallarida with her organising team. The Monaco Yacht Show is one of the top two flagship events of the Principality in terms of economic attractiveness.

The evening starts at 18:30. The three experts will speak from 19:00 until 19:30 and a cocktail with finger food follows until about 22:00. The cost is 25 euros for an advance ticket or 30 euros on the night.
