A 32-year-old Romanian has appeared in court in Monaco charged with stealing a luxury bag from a vehicle and breaking into a boat on Port Hercule. On April 16 the defendant broke the window of a Lotus and stole a Louis Vuitton bag holding a wallet, driver’s licence, identity papers, three bank cards, 50 euros in cash and a laptop, according to local French daily Monaco Matin.

On July 10, he told police officers that he broke into the yacht’s cabin because he was hungry and wanted “to sleep in a real bed.” The yacht’s captain alerted the police just before midnight.

In an attempt at mitigation, the culprit told the criminal court that his billionaire victims would not be unduly inconvenienced by his actions.

Interpol has a record of two convictions in Switzerland for similar offences, one for theft in Spain, plus another count of aggression, for which he was sentenced to 16 months in jail, and further offences in the UK, in the Netherlands and in Denmark. In Monaco he faces a prison term of between 45 days and two months.

Under the presidency of Prince Albert II, the 70th Gala of the Monegasque Red Cross will take place on Friday, July 27, in the prestigious setting of the Salle des Etoiles at the Sporting Monte-Carlo.

For the organisation founded in 1948 by Prince Louis II, this anniversary evening marks seventy years of help for the most vulnerable people, both within the Principality and elsewhere. The evening is a tribute to those who support the Monegasque Red Cross with donations.

Supported and guided by the deep convictions of HSH Prince Albert II, its President, the Monegasque Red Cross has continued to expand its help to alleviate the suffering caused by human tragedies that assail men, women and children around the world. In Monaco, 50 employees and over 600 volunteer members give their time to fulfil the Association’s missions both nationally and internationally in response to disasters.

In 2017, more than 74,000 people worldwide benefited directly from the activities of the Monegasque Red Cross, a figure that is twice the population of Monaco.

The 70th Gala of the Monegasque Red Cross promises to be unforgettable thanks to the presence of key artists, invited by the SBM.

This year the Monegasque Red Cross is particularly honoured to host Seal, the British legend of soul who became known in 1991 with the single ‘Crazy’. The same year, his first album SEAL, was greeted enthusiastically by critics. The evening is presented by Adriana Karembeu and Michel Cymes, accompanied by Maïtena Biraben.
