This summer the Sun Casino will operate pop-up gambling facilities in flagship establishments in the Principality, which Monte-Carlo Societe des Bains de Mer says is a first in Europe. Games tables and croupiers will take their places at the Blue Gin, at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort lounge bar, from August 2 to 25, 2018 and at Nikki Beach on August 5, 6 and 7, 2018.

The Blue Gin, one of Monaco’s most popular lounge bars for its chic and casual atmosphere, will host game tables from 20:00: Roulette and Black Jack tables will be offered on the terrace to enjoy the spectacular view of the Mediterranean.

Star ambassador of the event will be Bosnian footballer Miralem Pjanic, currently at Juventus in Turin. Just 28 years old, Miralem Pjanic started his brilliant career in France, at FC Metz and at Olympique Lyonnais, before joining AS Roma in 2011. In 2016, he joined the Juventus Football Club in Turin, where he chose to take number 5 in tribute to his idol, Zinedine Zidane. He was part of the team that won the Italian Cup in 2018.

“We are very pleased to be associated with Miralem Pjanic and he has agreed to be the ambassador of our new concept,” said Pascal Camia, General Manager of SBM.

“We are taking gaming to where our customers are. After a successful test at Nikki Beach in 2017, we decided to deploy our know-how in partnership with establishments whose friendly and festive spirit we share. This unprecedented initiative in France and Europe is the opportunity to introduce the thrill of table games to new audiences and make them want to go further.”

Monaco endorses Safe Schools Declaration

Monaco has announced its endorsement of the Safe Schools Declaration, becoming the 80th country to commit to safeguarding education during armed conflict, the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack announced on August 1.

More than one-third of all United Nations member states and the majority of the UN Security Council members have already taken this critical step towards ensuring education for all.

“With Monaco, 36 Council of Europe members and 24 members of the Organization of French-speaking Countries have endorsed the Declaration,” said Diya Nijhowne, GCPEA director.

“This widespread support for the Safe Schools Declaration should serve as a clarion call for the remaining members to unite in these crucial efforts to protect students and educators living in war.”

Monaco’s endorsement of the Declaration followed the recent UN Security Council open debate on children and armed conflict in New York on July 9. Attacks on, and military use of, schools emerged as an important issue at the debate, with support for the Safe Schools Declaration mentioned in 36 statements.

Monaco expressed its strong political support for protection of education in armed conflict by co-sponsoring the resolution, along with almost 100 other member states.

SBM launches Asian branch of Café de Paris

Galaxy resort in Macau

European gaming and hospitality company Société des Bains de Mer et du Cercle des Étrangers à Monaco (SBM) has opened the first Asian branch of its Café de Paris Monte-Carlo restaurant at the Galaxy Macau casino resort, a property owned by Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, July 31, Galaxy Entertainment announced that the Café de Paris Monte-Carlo branch opened on July 15, in a partnership with SBM. The restaurant is modelled on the Café de Paris Monte-Carlo, which dates back to 1868.

SBM specialises in the management of casinos and hotels, including the Casino de Monte-Carlo, the Casino Café de Paris, the Sun Casino, the Monte-Carlo Bay Casino and several hotels in the Principality.

Entertainment is listed as a minority shareholder in SBM, behind the Government of Monaco, the firm’s main shareholder. Galaxy Entertainment bought five percent of SBM for 40 million euros in 2015, describing at the time the purchase as “the first step in an exciting partnership” which it called strategic. The purchase was the first of any significance by Galaxy Entertainment outside Macau.

In May this year, Galaxy Entertainment and SBM indicated they might make a joint bid for a Japanese casino licence. Japan has recently passed legislation that will pave the way for a casino gaming sector.

Two years ago, the Slovenian coach reached the Champions League final (after defeating Monaco in the semifinals). Last year, however, he lost in the quarterfinals against the same Monegasques. His team won the Turkish Cup in 2017.

Last season, with a very young team, Filipovski reached the semifinals of the play-offs, only being beaten by the future champions, Fenerbahce.

Before his Turkish adventure, the Slovenian coach was two-time champion of Poland with Zielona Gora (2015, 2016) and two-time champion of Slovenia (2004, 2005), during his debut as head coach, with Olimpija Ljubljana. The coach has signed for two years and speaks French and English.

In the pre-season, the Roca Boys will travel to Bormio (Italy) from August 5 for a preparation course. They will then participate in the tournament of Olbia in Italy (from September 8 to 9), then to that of Antalya (Turkey) from September 12 to 16.
