The second-highest scorer in the Champions League last season for Pinar Karsiyaka (18.8 points to 51.7%, 6.6 rebounds) is a new player on the Monaco Basketball team. Jarrod Jones (2.05m, 28), joins the vice-champions of the French League and finalists of the BCL last season.

Jarrod Jones participated in this year’s NBA Summer League, signing a card (31 points, 8 rebounds) July 12 in Las Vegas against the Pelicans. After leaving Ball State (2012, 14.7 pts, 8.7 rebounds in seniors), He started his pro career in BC Kiev (2012/13), before heading to the Hungarian championship where he was champion in 2013 and  crowned for a second time in 2016 after a short stint in the JA Vichy Basket Pro B (8 games at 11.8 pts and 53.4%, 3.8 rebounds, 19.8 mn / match).

In February 2018, under the jersey of Karsiyaka, Jones scored 21 points against the Roca Team (9/12 in the titles, 3/4 to 3 points), in the only defeat of the Roca Team in the group stage of the Champions League (76-84). A complete and talented player, with a solid shoot, Jarrod Jones can play 1 on 1 under the circle and has the athletic qualities to help the rebound and defence, the Monaco team said.

Soccer’s European governing body has announced the list of nominees for the 2017-18 Men’s Player of the Year award.

The list features Real Madrid star Luka Modrić, Juventus’ newest member Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool’s hope, Mohamed Salah. The winner will be announced along with the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year and UEFA Champions League positional award winners in Monaco on Thursday, August 30, the occasion at which the group stage draw for the Champions League 2-18-19 season will also be announced.

The three players on the shortlist for the main event in Monaco were selected by a jury comprising 90 coaches of the clubs that were part of the Champions League group stages of the 2017/18 and Europa League, along with 55 journalists.

Ronaldo, a Champions League winner for a record five times and the top-scorer of the tournament in the sixth straight season, will be looking for his fourth UEFA player’s title. He won in 2014, 2016 and 2017.

Not only has the football pitch at Stade Louis II undergone a complete renovation over the summer, but also the basketball court, the Salle Omnisports Gaston Médecin, home to Monaco’s successful Roca Boys team. The renovation started at the end of July and comes to an end this week.

The objective was to ensure that the playing area conforms to the standards of the National Basketball League. The varnish has to be composed of two distinct shades, one for the two-point shooting zone, the other for the three-point shooting zone.

The perimeter of the field has been repainted red, identical to the existing, to retain the graphic identity of the club. The new floor will be ready for the resumption of the Jeep Elite Basketball Championship, with Monaco playing Lyon-Villeurbanne, on September 22.

Public fireworks vote favours Bulgaria over Portugal

Bulgaria was chosen as the public’s winner in the 2018 Fireworks Festival, after the official jury awarded first place to Portugal.

The Fireworks Festival, this year renamed ‘Art in the Sky,’ was decided by online voting and the winner announced at the Town Hall on Monday, August 20. The jury had placed the Bulgarians in third place out of four.

The Bulgarian company Enigma Fireworks were the last of the teams to light up the skies over Monaco, on August 11.

The public rated Bulgaria 8.75 out of 10, Portugal 8.20, Spain 5.65 and Italy 4.73.
