The port city lies just two hours away by car from Monaco and there are strong links on every level between the Principality and Italy’s sixth-largest town. Monaco’s history is also closely linked to that of Genoa, the original birthplace of the Grimaldi dynasty.
The official death toll from the collapse of the Morandi viaduct arose to 43 on Saturday, when the search for bodies ended. Four victims remain in hospital in critical condition.

Prince Michel de Yougoslavie first Photography book celebrates Life
Prince Michel de Yougoslavie first Photography book is available since last week and has been published by “d’Oro” Publishing House, printing, binding and producing hand-made books in Rome. The book will be on sale in Prince Michel’s next exhibition in Belgrade at the end of September at Madlenianum Opera and Theatre, the first privately owned Opera House, belonging to Zepter family.
Michel de Yougoslavie is a Monaco resident, grand-son of the last regent of Yugoslavia, Prince Paul, regent from 1934 to 1941. His other grand-father, from his mother side, was King Umberto II, the last king of Italy, exiled in 1946.
The Prince chose Monaco for the quality of lifestyle, his friendship with HSH Prince Albert II and his numerous friends here, but also for the incredible light of the Riviera that helps him to realise his most beautiful photographies.
The European Prince, with a strong background in finance and working in a very serious business environment in Geneva, discovered his passion for photography in 2009 when his friend and business coach, Nicole Petschek, advised him to add one or two hours of personal time to his new business schedule everyday, to concentrate on a hobby just for himself. She was helping him to develop his inner personal skills.
He bought a digital Leica camera and started going out everyday to catch images and pictures of his environment, reconnecting with pleasure and emotions. After five years of daily, silent and exclusively personal work, a friend asked him to organise an exhibition in Geneva, in 2014. An exhibition in Monaco followed in the next years, and soon many friends asked him to acquire one of his limited series photographies.
Prince Michel’s pictures are always showing a mix of strong Western European rational thinking with a touch of Eastern European mysticism. There is always a story behind each one of his photos.
Cerebral and conceptual as they may seem, even with an acid touch of humour, Michel de Yougoslavie’s Artworks unveil a very private and sophisticated view of the World. His natural observation of Life appears through his choice of subjects, everyday objects and human made products as well as living creatures and mother Nature herself.
Prince Michel gently shared with Monaco Life some of his Art images presented below:
Life
The first picture called “Life” starts with a reference to wood world. A wooden chalet made of wooden planks and a tree. The photographer observes human influence on evolution process from a very natural form like this crooked tree to a rigid and structured but securing structure as this house wall. Prince Michel wants to express his belief in human self-transformation capacity in life, through educational process.
Farewell to arms
The second photo shows a huge chandelier in Prince Michel’s family church and mausoleum in Serbia, St George’s church also known as Oplenac in Topola town. The name of the photo is “Farewell to arms” as this monumental piece was created by melting weapons after battles in the XIXth century, turning weapons into a support for light, weighing 1500 kilos and measuring 9 m of diameter. Michel shows his pride being part of Karadjeordjevic family and being connected to History created by his ancestors.
Next photo is a light and coloured one. A multicolour umbrellas exposition in a Belgrade street giving a human touch to everyday street life and routine. The visual composition is the main focus in this picture and has been carefully worked out to show the joy we can add to life.
Happy Day
Next picture is also a happy one, with this shinny airplane nose looking towards us, like a smiley, and reflecting the photographer in an unexpected selfie. “This is me smiling to the world” says Michel de Yougoslavie.
On the way
Industrial world has always been an attractive subject for him too. This picture in Geneva reminds the photographer the movements of Swiss watches, with a blink of an eye on human nature through a vivid orange tag and an street art painting showing Gandhi’s face on the grey and rigid machinery.
Mechanical
Next picture features Serbian Street Art, quite an encounter for the photographer in his quest for Serbian modern History.
Moje Grad
Last picture is a photographer personal composition featuring the imaginary fight between a Sumo piece of Art and a luxury car. The photographer’s eye caught the accidental and humorous coincidence, looking immediately for the better angle to express his idea.
Sumo and Ferrari
Through all his pictures, Michel de Yougoslavie is showing an irrepressible willingness and desire of living a joyful, intelligent life and to share that with us.

Citing China Daily as its local news source, superyachttimes.com reports that the 88.5-metre superyacht Illusion Plus is heading to Monaco via Shenzhen in time for the Monaco Yacht Show, where she will be one of the largest vessels in attendance. The yacht was delivered by Pride Mega Yachts over the weekend of August 11/12 following the completion of sea trials in June in China’s Yellow Sea.
The largest yacht built in Asia was started on speculation by Pride Mega Yachts several years ago and built by Yantai Raffles Offshore Limited. News surrounding the project was relatively quiet following the 2014 announcement of her sale with Fraser and Bluewater. This changed earlier this year when brokerage company Y.CO announced its appointment as the central agent for the sale of the yacht. Since the brokerage company was appointed by the shipyard, this suggests that the project is back in the ownership of the yard.

Her large volume of 3,603 GT is spread over six decks and accommodates 12 guests across six staterooms. With power provided by a Rolls Royce diesel-electric propulsion package, Illusion Plus can reach a top speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. She is listed for sale with an asking price of $145 million.
“Monaco Unexpected” played host to 21 agency clients at a weekend away in the Cotswolds at the Fish Hotel on the Farncombe Estate, the meetings and incentive travel news site meetpie reports. The weekend was hosted by Stephan Degueurce-Roberge, managing director at Monaco Tourist Authority and his team made up of regional sales manager Rebecca Petit-Jean and executive assistant Noemi Guy.
Agencies attending included Ashfield Meetings & Events, CL Venues, Pure events, Banks Sadler, Advantage Meetings & Events , Principal Global events, Active consultancy , Grass roots Meetings & Events and American Express meetings & events.
Managing director Stephan Degueurce-Roberge said: “We are extremely pleased at how the event went. We received amazing clients’ feedback and we are already working on two enquiries.”
The first evening started with a gin-tasting, followed by an extensive rural food buffet. Saturday morning began with individual meetings, followed by a gardening activity where the agencies had to make a creative aromatic garden.
The task was set up to demonstrate that Monaco is one of the most sustainable countries in the world, with the Principality Monaco launching a new project, “Terre de Monaco” that consists of cultivating gardens and vegetables, as well as beehives at hotels or on private rooftops . The production is then distributed in restaurants or at the Condamine Market, the famous local fruit and vegetable market in Monaco.
The activity was followed by a picnic. After lunch, clients were put into different teams to compete against each other in four activities taking place in four districts of Monaco. “Fontvieille” – creation of a Cocktail, “La Condamine”– blind tasting of Monaco local products, “Monaco Ville” – a game of pétanque and “Monte-Carlo” – a festival-themed activity.
Martina Aberle from CL Venues said: “I absolutely loved the hotel and the location, and I found out so much more about Monaco that I would have [done] in a ‘normal’ presentation at a workshop or an exhibition – it was really a wonderful way to bond and bring us all together. Monaco is now definitely on my radar and I also hope to be able to come and visit soon, and will definitely keep it in mind when clients come through with suitable briefs.”
Monaco Partners who attended were Laura Guerin from the Columbus Monte-Carlo, Sabrina Caputo from Lafayette Travel, Julie Caprini from the Grimaldi Forum, Juliette Cairo from Monte-Carlo SBM and Camille Trenda from the Fairmont Monte Carlo.
A young man who arrived from Moselle with seventeen sachets of hashish in his pockets has been sent to jail in Monaco for 15 days for possession, transport, importation, and the offering for sale of narcotics.
The unemployed 20 year-old had sachets in his possession with a total weight of 17.78 grammes. He intended to go to Larvotto beach to make the sales, the Criminal Court was told.
Stopped on the Boulevard Louis-II in mid-afternoon on Sunday, August 12, the defendant admitted having bought cannabis in Marseille and Cannes for 120 euros. He was about to offer one gramme and two gramme bags of cannabis for five and ten euros, and had posted videos on Snapchat to advertise his product.
The accused said that his mother sent him spending money and that he had no idea that selling cannabis was an offence in Monaco. The young man has a long record of criminality in France, the court heard. His lawyer asked the court for a suspended sentence while the prosecution demanded four months in prison and a ten year ban from Monaco.
