Henry worried more for Monaco team than himself

Troubled Monaco manager Thierry Henry has said he is less concerned about his own future than he is about the team.

Monaco were dumped out of the French Cup this week, with a 3-1 defeat to Metz. The Monaco goal came from Radamel Falcao.

Joining the club only in October, as it languised in thet relegation zone, Henry has failed so far to turn around results.

In a press conference, he said his own future was in the hands of the club’s owners. His concern, he said, is for the team.

“No need to always ask the same question,” he told the press conference. “I would answer the same thing – Atletico Madrid have been relegated in the 90s with stronger players than us. [Real] Zaragoza as well more recently.

“We are in this situation, even if it was Coupe de France and now we are out, but this weekend against Dijon in Ligue 1, it’s going to be war.”

Transfer talk at Monaco

Off the pitch, the team is involved of plenty of transfer talks, even after signing players such as Naldo, Fabregas and Vainqueur.

L’Equipe has reported that AC Milan is set to sign Monaco’s Leroy Abanda.

Newcastle United are keen on signing Antonio Barreca.

Napoli’s Carlos Vinicius is, according to Sky Sport, close to joining Monaco.

Manchester City manager Guardiola has also said that Mangala will be leaving the team and Monaco is cited as his destination.

Chelsea’s Gary Cahill, free to talk to clubs ready for a free move in six months, may be joining Monaco, although Arsenal are also trying to sign him.

Of the 50 operations organised in 2018, one key highlight was the trade mission to Beijing, accompanying the Sovereign Prince’s official visit to China.

It was a successful trip, in part due to the inauguration of the Grimaldi Forum’s Princes and Princesses of Monaco exhibition in the Forbidden City.

Another landmark occasion was in Dubai, where MEB facilitated a meeting with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce for Monaco business leaders, whose companies represent nearly 90% of the country’s GDP.

A full calendar in 2019 includes three Trade Missions: New Delhi (2-6 February), Vienna (13-15 May) and Bucharest (5-7 November).

Targeted promotional operations involving Monegasque companies are also scheduled in Madrid, Frankfurt and Rostov-sur-le-Don in Russia. Meanwhile, Monaco Invest continues its prospecting operations to London, Switzerland, Belgium, and the Dubai and Singapore boat shows. In the Principality, members can look forward to a programme of topical conferences with renowned economists such as Julien Marcilly (COFACE) and Ludovic Subran (Euler Hermes/Allianz), and expand their networks when the MEB hosts foreign delegations.

Go racing car crazy at Grimaldi Forum

Senna

We’re looking ahead to the Monaco and the Automobile Exhibition, from 9 July to 13 September 2020, at the Grimaldi Forum.

The history of the Principality of Monaco and the history of the motor car are truly intertwined.

From the first car hill climb race (the route of which was Marseille-Nice-La Turbie-Monte Carlo), which took place from 1897, to the great modern races, not forgetting the prestigious interwar concours d’élégance, the Principality’s economic and social life is marked by these events which are held on Monegasque asphalt, the incomparable test track for the greatest technical and technological developments in cars and its ecosystem.

The crown jewels in Monaco’s racing calendar continue to be the Monte Carlo Rally and the Monaco Grand Prix.

The biggest names in international motorsport have left their tyre marks on the tarmac on the streets of the Principality and on the roads which lead there. Monaco is developing, its urban landscape in a constant state of flux, around a circuit that has remained almost unchanged over the years. Every step they take there, looking around, native Monegasques and tourists alike are able to tell an anecdote or bring back to life a scene which makes up the motorsport legend of the place.

Designed to be both an exploration and a celebration, the exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves in this history, with around 50 cars that were all genuinely used in one of the great Monaco-related motor races.

The exhibition will highlight a large variety of works, of memorabilia and also of never-before-exhibited archives.

The royal family presented a string of awards to performers.

The winner of a Gold Clown Award was wild cat trainer Martin Lacey Junior who had earlier wowed the crowds with his performance with a lion in the big top.

Stéphanie, who is President of the spectacular, helps to oversee the Circus Festival and is involved in everything from choosing the acts to the choreography.

Her father, Prince Rainier, was the brains behind the first festival.
