The watch auction taking place at Monaco Legends Auctions on 14 January could set records, according to GQ Magazine.
In its first big auction of 2019, the auction house offers many unique timepieces. The style magazine says “January has traditionally been a fallow month in the world of high-end auctions, not least because many of the world’s super-rich are busy in their favourite alpine playgrounds or soaking-up some winter sun.
“But now that the internet has made it easy to view lots online and bid ‘any time, any place, anywhere’ the importance of when a sale is held and its ‘live’ location is becoming increasingly irrelevant.”
A total of 141 lots are up for auction on 14 January and lots are on display both at the auction house and online from 9 January.
Make It Matter exhibition to benefit Fight Aids Monaco
Under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie of Monaco, Kamil Art Gallery presents Make It Matter. A retrospective exhibition of Jordan Matter’s art from January 25th to March 8th, 2019.
Jordan Matter, with his 250 million views on all social media platforms and more than 1.8 million followers on Instagram, has seen through his photos gather a whole slice of the population who follows him unconditionally.
Fight Aids Monaco is a Monaco organisation, founded in 2004 by H.S.H. Princess Stephanie.
The vocation of this association is to accompany anyone living with HIV, who suffers from isolation, lack of trust and too often discrimination. They organize all-public information sessions and intervene in schools and universities.
Fight Aids carries out also communication and prevention campaigns on HIV.
Pursuing that spirit, in 2010, H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie created La Maison de Vie (Life House) in Carpentras, which is financed by Fight Aids Monaco.
A unique concept in Europe, it is a non-medical facility that offers people living with HIV one to two weeks of individual accommodation to rest, take time for themselves and regain self-confidence.
Jordan Matter is a portrait and dance photographer, author of the New York Times bestsellers Dancers Among Us and Born To Dance.
His work has created a viral phenomenon attracting over three million followers on social media and the videos of his Youtube series, 10 minute photo challenge have been viewed over 200 million times.
He has presented his work to a wide variety of organisations such as ESPN, the National Arts Club or the School of Visual Arts. Him and his work have been featured on ABC World News, Nightline, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Today, the BBC and in the New York Times, the Huffington Post, O, The Oprah Magazine and newspapers, magazines and exhibitions all over the world.
WHAT IS THE 10 MINUTE PHOTO CHALLENGE?
The idea is to capture the maximum photographies in only 10 minutes of fearless dancers, athletes or circus performers in any insolite places without any previous planning. With his contagious energy Jordan Matter manages to capture the beauty of these amazing moments while letting serendipity unfold throughout the challenge.
National Council defends Monegasque model too Rapporteur of the European Parliament
A delegation of the National Council, led by President Stéphane VALERI, met on Monday, January 7, Juan Fernando LOPEZ AGUILAR, MEP, Rapporteur for a possible Association Agreement between Monaco and the European Union, to present him the specificities of the Monegasque model. The latter was present in Monaco as part of a study trip to the Principality, on the initiative of the Monaco Mission to the EU in Brussels.
At this meeting, the President of the National Council, after recalling “the unflagging commitment of the Monegasques to the constitutional monarchy”, presented the role of the Assembly within the institutions and in particular “its constitutional prerogative attributing to it, since 2002, the power to ratify international treaties, which applies to this eventual Association Agreement “.
Stéphane VALERI also recalled the specificities of the Principality, which impose the respect of the national priority for the Monegasques, in particular in the matter of housing and employment. In addition, Thomas BREZZO said: “We consider it essential to preserve the criterion of nationality, which allows Monegasques to benefit from exclusive access to certain regulated professions.”
These specificities, recalled the National Councilors, are the very condition of the success of the Monegasque model and are non-negotiable to guarantee its survival.
On the occasion of this exchange, President VALERI said: “Today, without a treaty, our model is a success like no other. So there is no urgency. This success must be examined in the light of our specificities. Nationals represent less than a quarter of the population. Without a national priority, the majority of Monegasques could no longer live or work in their own country “.
For all that, Guillaume ROSE reminded: “Monaco is a country extremely open to the world. Let us not forget that 140 nationalities live there and European nationals represent more than 60% of the residents. Similarly, trade is mainly with the countries of the European Union.
The President concluded before the Rapporteur: “At the end of the negotiations, we will examine with pragmatism the advantages for the Principality and the concessions requested in Monaco. Our decision will be dictated only by the sole interest of the country and the Monegasques.”
National elected officials are delighted by the holding of such exchanges, which contribute to a better knowledge of the Monegasque realities by our European interlocutors.

In line with the great monographs of twentieth century artists presented at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco (SuperWarhol in 2003, Monaco Celebrates Picasso in 2013 and, more recently, Francis Bacon, Monaco and French Culture in 2016), the summer 2019 exhibition will be dedicated to Dali, curated by Montse Aguer, Director of the Dali Museums.
This retrospective is conducted in collaboration with the Fundacio Gala-Salvador Dalí.
In this year, the 30th anniversary of the artist’s death (1904-1989), the Dali exhibition, a history of painting, offers the public an exceptional journey through Dali’s artistic production and allows it to discover the different stages of the artist’s creation.
It not only offers a retrospective view of Dali’s work, but also reveals how the painter has become enshrined in the history of twentieth century painting.
The public will thus be able to discover the different steps of his creation and to recognize the imprint of the different painters who influenced him, and to whom he paid homage.
The selection includes, to date, approximately one hundred works, including paintings, drawings and photographs, mostly from the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation in Figueres and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid.
