Digitising Monaco’s health system

The use of digital technology to improve health care is the focus of a two-day conference currently underway in Monaco. A host of health professionals have come together to learn more about this innovative area and how they can help to shape the future of health care in the Principality.

Minister of Social Affairs and Health Didier Gamerdinger officially opened the 5th edition of e-Health World Monaco on Tuesday 26th March at the Fairmont. Organised by health professionals, the high-level event is dedicated to the future of health and treatment, an important subject for public authorities working to develop digital health in the Principality.

“This event has quickly established itself as a leading forum for digital health, a topic of major interest,” said Didier Gamerdinger.

Health professionals from Monaco and France are discussing the challenges of e-health, sharing new practices, learning about emerging technologies and meeting various key players in the field of future health care. There are lectures on digital therapy for pain management, digital hospitals, surgery, dermatology and the use of reality technology in the field of health.

Mr Gamerdinger noted that in a world where digital technology is developing in all sectors, particularly in health, “Monaco has to evolve and be in step with the most positive progress in this area.”

“We want to do this resolutely because we are convinced that this is where the future of quality public and private health will be played out,” he added. “It is in this sense that the Government is committed.”

Mr Gamerdinger announced that a health portal will soon be up and running, featuring general information for the public, a directory of health providers, an online appointment booking module and a space reserved for professionals. Another major project will be the hosting of health data in a sovereign cloud secured by the state. According to the minister, each patient in Monaco will have an individualised digital medical file within two years. “This will simplify the course of care and will be more effective in the patient’s treatment.”

The conference is reserved for professionals and students.

Women in Monaco series: Emma Jarach

The hugely successful Women in Monaco series continues, highlighting females of the Principality who empower, excel and inspire. This week, She Can He Can talks to Jemma Jarach, owner of My Emma Resortwear.

What does success look like to you?

Emma Jarach: Success for me is the ability to do what I’m passionate about every day, it also means living how and where I want to. It’s that feeling when you know you have found your happy place.

There will always be obstacles on the way but overcoming those obstacles, trying to stay positive and focused, follow your gut feeling I believe is the key to success.

What is the main thing that needs to change to improve entry into your field of work, including opportunities for development and the day-to-day life of women at work?

In the fashion industry where I’m working the big majority are women. We are also the largest majority of the end consumer. My daily communication from manufacturers to fabric suppliers is mainly with women. Apparently 80-85% of the people graduating in the fashion industry are female, but there is still a big lack of female leadership in the big fashion houses. I read a study recently that among the 50 major fashion houses only 14% were led by women, which is surprising. I think one way to change it is to admit these numbers and to start the change in the HR department, and accept more women at the top.

Tell us about a woman you admire and how she’s inspired you to become who you are today?

There are so many of course, only in my close family I have always admired my mother and grandmothers. But there is also one that has always inspired me and made so many people dream all over the world which is: Astrid Lindgren. A Swedish author known for writing many children’s books and screenplays. An incredibly creative woman so full of imagination and dreams, but also a committed humanist who fought for the rights of children, equality and ecology. One of my absolute favorite quotes by her is: “Give the children love, more love and still more love – and the common sense will come by itself.

Sting to headline Sporting Summer Festival

Rock legend Sting will be performing at this year’s Monte Carlo Sporting Summer Festival, it’s been revealed. Another interesting addition is American actor Jeff Goldblum, who will take to the stage with his jazz band The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra.

Sting will be performing in Monaco as part of his My Songs tour

The official line-up was revealed at a press conference at Jimmyz on Tuesday 26th March, but Sting had leaked the announcement hours earlier on social media.

He Tweeted: “Just announced: My Songs will be heading to the Monte Carlo Sporting Club in Monaco on August 2. Tickets go on sale at 2pm local time today – visit Sting.com for details! #MySongsTour”

According to the official Sting website, My Songs will be a “rollicking, dynamic show focusing on the most beloved songs written by Sting and spanning the 16-time Grammy Award winner’s prolific career with The Police and as a solo artist. Fans can expect to hear ‘Englishman In New York’, ‘Fields Of Gold’, ‘Shape Of My Heart’, ‘Every Breath You Take’, ‘Roxanne’, ‘Message In a Bottle’ and many more, with Sting accompanied by an electric, rock ensemble.”

Jeff Goldblum and his jazz band will be opening the music festival

Another lesser known headline act will be Jeff Goldblum, who will be opening the Sporting Summer Festival on 2nd July. It will be the first time that the Opera Garnier Monte Carlo will host Goldblum, an American icon who is far more famous for his acting career and roles in Jurassic Park and The Fly.

In fact, Goldblum started performing in small clubs at the age of 15 and over time he formed the jazz band The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra with his friends. After performing on the BBC’s Graham Norton Show in 2017, he was asked to record in the famous Capitol studios. For his first album, Goldblum has reprised the standards of Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock and Nina Simone.

Vanessa Paradis will be performing from her new album ‘Les Sources’

The Monte Carlo Sporting Summer Festival is renowned for attracting big talents, and this year’s line-up will also include Vanessa Paradis on 5th July. She will be performing her new album ‘Les Sources’ which is focused on nature, dreams and love. So get ready for copious amounts of soft, solar and rhythmic energy.

The Beach Boys will be featuring at the Fight Aids Night on 13th July, while John Legend will headline the Red Cross Gala on 26th July.

The Jacksons will hit the Summer Sporting stage again in August, while Latin Lover Enrique Iglesias will also return to the Salle des Etoiles’ stage in August.
