AS Monaco unveils new home jersey

AS Monaco and Kappa have unveiled the club’s new home jersey for the 2019-20 season, marking the omini’s return to the famous diagonal design.

Two days after the official start of their new partnership, AS Monaco and Kappa presented the new ‘Kombat’ home jersey that Monegasques will wear for the next season, as well as the training and lifestyle collections now available for sale.

The jersey has been designed with Kombat™ technology to provide comfort and lightness for players, and features the mythical diagonal pattern on the front and back of the jersey. It is affixed to the lower 3/4 of the jersey in order to have a dominant red colour on the top where an all-over of diamonds reminiscent of the Principality’s coat of arms is merged.

Details include a revisited officer collar, the club’s coat of arms in 3D silicone on the heart side and the omini on the other side in gold. On the back, the claim “Daghe Munegu” is affixed in transfer in the pass. A white elastic insert is added at the bottom of the sleeves to complete the sleek and stylish shirt.

The outfit will be accompanied by white shorts and white and red stockings.

“We are very pleased to introduce the new home jersey, which marks Kappa’s return as an equipment supplier and major partner of the club for six seasons,” said Oleg Petrov, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer AS Monaco. “Kappa is a historical brand, which has partnered with the greatest teams and is also very well established in the world of fashion and lifestyle. The ambition to be as competitive as possible and the desire to surpass oneself are values that we are delighted to share, nearly 20 years after a first happy adventure. Kappa represents a glorious page in the club’s history and we are convinced that these strong memories will help us to look to the future successfully.”

The first partnership between Kappa and AS Monaco was initiated in 1998 and ended in 2001. It was a historic and fruitful collaboration that saw AS Monaco, supported by Ludovic Giuly and Marco Simone, win its 7th French Championship title and the 2000 Champions Trophy, under the famous Omini diagonal jersey.

“The signing of the partnership with AS Monaco is in perfect harmony with our ambition and our project to make Kappa a major sports brand in Europe,” said Lorenzo Boglione, owner of Kappa. “We are delighted to come and write a new story here, in an ambitious club with a strong identity and a unique character of elegance and excellence. Our shared glorious past must be a strength for the future of our partnership and we are very excited to unveil our products to all the club’s players and supporters today.”

India and Monaco’s sustainability ties

The first ever summit covering sustainable action in India and developing countries has been held in Monaco.

The ‘Sustainable Action Dialogue’, a pre-event to the World Summit on Sustainable Development (MSSD) took place on Wednesday 3rd July at the Fairmont Hotel and focussed on the key themes of mutual interest for the Principality and India: renewable energies and electric mobility.

The dialogue was structured under the topics: ‘Renewable energies – a viable tool for the transition to clean energy’ and ‘Advancing electric mobility in cities: addressing crucial challenges (policies, regulations and technology)’, and included two sessions aimed at mobilising a key thematic dialogue in the presence of Indian and European experts.

The summit followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the New Delhi-based Institute of Energy and Resources (TERI) in New Delhi on 4th February in the presence of Prince Albert. It was viewed as an important step in consolidating links between two organisations committed to producing common tools for communication and knowledge development.

“The purpose of the MoU was to initiate collaboration that would identify and lead to joint projects in line with the sustainability goals of both organisations,” said Olivier Wenden, Executive Director of the Foundation.

The summit was a curtain raiser to the 2020 edition of TERI’s flagship event,  the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), held from 29th to 31st January 2020 in New Delhi, India, under the theme ‘Towards 2030 goals: making the decade count’.

Annapurna Vancheswaran, General Director of TERI, identified the WSSD and the Sustainable Action Dialogue in Monaco as “important platforms for making sustainable development a common global goal”.

Over the years, the MSSD series has brought together 47 heads of state and government, 13 Nobel laureates, ministers from 67 countries, 1,600 entrepreneurs, more than 1,800 speakers, and over 12,000 delegates from around the world.

Considered one of the only global summits taking place in the least developed countries, the WSSD aims to provide long-term solutions for the benefit of the global community by bringing together the world leaders and important thinkers.

Discussions from the Sustainable Action Dialogue in Monaco will be reported during the main phase of the WSSD in January, with a view to translate them into concrete policies and sound projects.

ESPINASSE31 presents Tomasz Kucharski

Espinasse31, a Milanese contemporary gallery and artist’s residency, is presenting a solo exhibition of the Polish artist Tomasz Kucharski. Monaco Life attended the exclusive opening of the exhibition at Le Meridien Beach Plaza last week and witnessed first-hand the impressive nature of his works.

Tomasz Kucharski, Girl in a hat, 2018

Tomasz Kucharski, born in 1955, is an engineer and self-taught painter who lives and works in near Warsaw, Poland.

The main subject of his work is portrait. More specifically, he specialises in the image of women and men transformed by his imagination. Sometimes this is presented in a very abstract way, sometimes it is more realistic, but always with a hint of refection and irony.

Tomasz Kucharski, French Officer, 2017

“I think that the capacity of the word ‘portrait’ in my painting is very broad” says Tomasz. “The main series of portraits, which I have been carrying out for almost eight years, are ‘Officers’.

“These are the performances of soldiers of various armies, not necessarily existing in reality, but rather are creations of my imagination.”

The paintings reflect the artist’s interests in the army, uniforms and military and he says a new series of “officers” are still in the works.

Tomasz also paints still life and abstract art, using both oil and acrylic techniques.

“I like to put processed ready-made elements on the pictures, collage and photography,” he says. “I am still trying to introduce new techniques and methods of painting to my work. All this gives me the joy of painting – because that’s how I understand my passion.”

The works of Tomasz are inspired by the great painters of the beginning of the 20th Century, to which he adds his personal contemporary interpretation.

The exhibition is open to the public until the 1st of October. Espinasse31 will also be organising special events throughout the summer.

Giant seeds exhibition

A unique exhibition is being held in the Exotic Garden in Monaco this summer, showacasing the intricacies of enlarged seeds by artist Séverine Cadier, otherwise known as Artgraine.

In total, 30 works will be presented outdoors and in the Louis Vatrican greenhouse, each representing a seed enlarged to between 20 and 100 times its normal size.

Most of the seeds actually come from the Exotic Garden itself and have been entrusted to the artist to reveal their extraordinary shapes through the work of enlargement and molding using various materials.

Séverine Cadier was born in Paris and has been making ceramics since 1992. For the past 15 years she has focused on botanics, a subject which she is passionate about.

As Séverine Cadier explains: “Around us are thousands of seeds: under our feet, on our clothes, in the air, when we walk. Tiny, unnoticed, insignificant. These potential treasures contain the largest trees, the most beautiful flowers, the plants. To reproduce them in a big way is to open ourselves up to a mysterious world, to finally make it accessible.”

“My work of art is very symbolical, suggesting life and death: the seed has to die for the plant to live,” says the artist. “The grain that feeds us has an important economical and ecological issue.”

The Artgraine exhibition will be on show until 30th August at the Jardin Exotique. There is free access upon presentation of the entrance ticket to the garden.

“This will be for me the first ministerial conference and I intend to take the opportunity to build or renew relations with ministers of the francophone space,” said Ms Mushikiwago.

Ms Mushikiwabo, who hails from Rwanda, served as the Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation from 2009 to 2018, and was the Minister of Information prior to that. Her term as secretary general of the OIF lasts four years.

The OIF, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, started as a small club in Northern France and has expanded globally since its inception in 1970. The purpose is to bring member states together to share information, namely regarding justice, science, culture, economic development, and peace.
