Roca Team captain steps out

Captain of the Roca Team Amara Sy is leaving Monaco, despite having a year left on his contract.

Amara Sy joined AS Monaco basketball in 2015 during his ascent in the elite.

The 33-year-old has won three Leaders Cup trophies with the club (2016, 2017, 2018) and has played two Jeep Elite finals, achieved one bronze and one Champions League silver medals, and three first places finishes in the regular season.

His future destination has not yet been revealed.

“I had one year of my contract that I expected to honour but given the long term project that I was offered I could not refuse, I had to think about my future and that of my family,” said Amara Sy through the club. “I lived in Monaco, and it was an exceptional experience both on and off the field. I was welcomed with open arms.”

The past season has been difficult for the “Admiral”. Plagued by injuries, Sy did not return to competition until the 31st day, without having fully recovered.

“It was simply an honor to meet ‘Admiral’ Amara Sy, a great gentleman to whom the entire AS Monaco Basket wishes the greatest success in his new life,” said AS Monaco Basket in a statement.

ASM lose friendly against Lausanne-Sport

AS Monaco has lost to Lausanne-Sport 1-2 in their third warm-up match played in Switzerland.

Despite Gabriel Boschilia’s opener in the 64th minute and an overall decent performance, ASM suffered a second straight defeat on 13th July. Their next test is 19th July against Everton.

The best takeaway from the day was the performance of the players on the pitch. With an attractive starting lineup, including an offensive consisting of Gelson Martins, Golovin, Rony Lopes, and Cardona, the team produced opportunities and netted a goal (Gabriel Boschilia), followed by a shallow cross from Rony Lopes that was kept in action by Cesc Fabregas.

Meanwhile, AS Monaco has announced the return of Bertrand Reuzeau as Director of the Academy. Bertrand joined AS Monaco as Director of the Training Centre, a position he held during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.

A former professional French player from 1984 to 1997, Bertrand Reuzeau led the Paris SG training and pre-training centre for more than 10 years. He was the general manager last season.

Bertrand Reuzeau will take up his position on 20th July.

In numbers: women in the workplace

New figures released by statistics group IMSEE have revealed where women are placed in the business world of Monaco, and the results are less than surprising.

At the end of 2018, women represented 27.9% of all registered members of the Trade and Industry Directory. The number of females with a SARL business entity equated to 30%, while 21.4% of all Monegasque limited companies (SAM) were registered by females.

The latest figures do not differ significantly from the previous year.

In total, there were 56,303 employees in Monaco at the end of 2018, and 40.2% of these were women, the majority of whom worked in the private sector.

There are slightly more women employed in the Principality’s public sphere, at 42.6%.

Not surprisingly, some sectors remain female-dominated, including administration, education, health and social action, where the participation rate is more than 70%. Meanwhile, women make up 60% of employees in household, artistic and recreation-related positions.

Working women in Monaco tend to be closer to their place of employment: 47.1% live in Monaco or in neighboring municipalities, compared to 36.1% of men.
