Jodie Foster headlines Pink Ribbon event in Monaco

Monaco Life Editor Cassandra Tanti was at the Princess Grace Theatre on Thursday night where she spoke to Hollywood superstar Jodie Foster about the film ‘Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché’, which was being screened at the initiative of Pink Ribbon Monaco.

For nine years, Pink Ribbon Monaco has been instrumental in promoting breast cancer awareness in the Principality. This year they raised the bar with a two day event that started with the screening of a documentary narrated by actress, director and producer Jodie Foster, who was also present to take questions and lead a public discussion after the film.

“I am here to support director and producer Pamela Green,” Jodie Foster told Monaco Life.  “She came to talk to me about Alice Guy-Blaché who I had never heard of in my entire life, which is kind of extraordinary as I have been in the movie industry for a long time. So I was totally blown away and inspired by the story and wanted to see it as much as anybody else.”

Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Gui-Blachéand tells the story of the first female film director who, after making more than 1,000 films, faded from the public eye and, to a large part, from history.

The screening was attended by Prince Albert II of Monaco who presented Pink Ribbon of Monaco Awards to both Jodie Foster and Pamela Green.

The Metropole Hotel Monte Carlo, a partner of the association, will follow up by hosting the first ever Pink Ribbon Awards ceremony tonight as part of a gala dinner.

The evening will celebrate those who have worked with and supported women who have suffered from this terrible disease and will also raise funds for the Princess Grace Hospital and patients at the Senology Centre. The hotel will exceptionally be bathed in pink light for the event.

Natasha Frost-Savio, the organisation’s founder, has been educating women and raising awareness about the importance of breast screening and prevention since 2011. She has worked tirelessly to turn Pink Ribbon Monaco from a once-yearly walk with a few hundred participants to an event marked by thousands of walkers, as well as putting together campaigns year-round to keep the word out there.

Alain Ducasse restaurants join two-for-one deal in Monaco

Two of Monaco’s finest restaurants, Louis XV and Ômer at the Hotel de Paris, are offering incredible deals this month as part of the ‘Tous au restaurant’ campaign, giving diners an opportunity to feast like a king for half the price.

The campaign was initiated by Alain Ducasse 10 years ago and this year involves more than 140 restaurants in the PACA region and Monaco alone, with thousands more taking part across the country.

The aim is to give people a unique opportunity to “discover, or rediscover, the diversity, vitality and creativity of the tables de France”.

For 15 days, diners can experience starred restaurants, contemporary bistros and lively eateries with the same promise: “Your guest is our guest”. The chefs of each establishment compose a special menu and the second person dines for free.

In Monaco, Alain Ducasse’s three-Michelin starred restaurant Louis XV is proposing a set four-course menu for only 165€, including dishes such as fresh langoustines with almonds, pomegranate and ginger, and wild duck breast with figs, sorrel and nuts. Unfortunately, Monaco Life has been informed that the Louis XV ‘Tous au restaurant‘ is fully booked.

Alain Ducasse’s second restaurant, Ômer, is also participating in the campaign and there are still reservations available. Situated on the garden level of the new Rotonde wing of the Hôtel de Paris Monte Carlo, the restaurant’s chefs Patrick Laine and Alain Ducasse present a menu that embodies the rich diversity of Mediterranean influences. The ‘Tous au restaurant’ offering comprises mezzes, main, dessert and beverage for two people priced at only 55€. Normal menus at Ômer range from 130€ to 1,500€.

The ‘Tous au restaurant’ campaign has been a huge success, with more than 250,000 online bookings at 1,750 participating restaurants in 2018.

This year, the organisers have upped the ante, bringing together more than 2,000 participating restaurants in an effort to accommodate even more people, all over France.

Tous au restaurant’ runs from 30th September until 13th October. Bookings are essential and can be made at: https://tousaurestaurant.lafourchette.com

Pass’Sport Culture returns for half term holiday

The wildly popular Pass’Sport Culture programme was such a summer hit, the government has decided bring it back for Monaco’s young people to enjoy during the upcoming half term break.

The Department of National Education, Youth and Sports-run series for residents and school children of the Principality between the ages of 11 and 25 offers a vast array of activities that suit every schedule and preference.

Whether it is trying a hand at scuba diving, climbing, fencing, circus performing, muay thai, bowling or parkour and free-running, or attempting more intellectual pursuits such as learning about archaeology or trying to get out of an escape room, there really is something for everyone.

Young people can book on their own or with friends, and each adventure is tailor-made to make new discoveries, meet new people and create new memories.

Pass’Sport Cutlure registration is now open for the Toussaint break and requires a €20 fee, which makes the child or young person a member and entitles them to access all activities. Space are limited, so early enrolment is recommended.

Sign up forms are available online at:

https://service-public-particuliers.gouv.mc/Education/Vie-extra-scolaire/Adolescents/Pass-Sport-Culture

Alternatively, they can be picked up from the National Education Information Centre at 18 Avenue des Castelans between 9:30am and 6:30 pm.

Monaco’s rowing team wins two national titles

Monaco’s Nautical Society Rowing team is ending the season on a high with two gold medal wins at the French Championship Sprint.

The first race was held on Lake Gérardmer last weekend in the Vosges region, where Geatan Delhon and Vincent Noirot put on an excellent performance and won the top in the final where their time of 1’30”50 was more than enough to breeze past rival teams from Corbeil and Belbeuf.

This duo is the same that worked together so well at the Mediterranean Beach Games in Patras, Greece earlier this summer, and clearly the hard work and dedication paid off.

Coach Daniel Fauché agreed, saying: “They had a good season and did a good job.”

Bernard Fasanelli and Julien Hardi ran a double handi and secured the gold for the criterium sprint with a time of 2’28”36.

Teammates Paul Mosser and Ludovic Dubuis came in a respectable 6th, citing poor weather conditions and being a bit slow off the mark.

Junior women’s competitors Gaïa Umbra Chiavini, Amanda Tello-Adam, Julianne Lepra and Chloé Philibert placed 7th, “a great performance” according to their coach.

In Cassis, Monaco sent 25 athletes for the Regatta where junior boys came in 1st and 2nd, and junior girls took the silver.
