An exercise testing the response of emergency services in both Monaco and the Alpes-Maritimes is scheduled in the cross-border railway tunnel between Cap d’Ail and Monaco on the night of Tuesday 17th October.
The exercise is being organised by Monaco’s Department of the Interior and the Prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes. It will test the emergency plan in force since 2013, which involves the response and operational capacity of all the emergency services involved.
The scenario foresees a technical incident in the train’s braking system that will generate smoke in the tunnel.
Human and material resources will be deployed, in particular vehicles from the Monaco Fire Brigade, as well as vehicles from the Alpes-Maritimes’ Fire Department and Rescue Service.
As this exercise takes place during the night, there will be no disruption to train traffic or restrictions on parking and pedestrian traffic in the surrounding area.
However, if local residents observe unusual movements such as emergency and law enforcement gatherings around this area, they are asked not to interfere with the smooth running of this exercise.
The exercise will end at 4am Wednesday morning.
