Fête de la Science

This weekend, the Fontvieille Commercial Centre will host the 2024 edition of Fête de la Science in partnership with local institutions, including the Centre Scientifique de Monaco and the Musée d’Anthropologie Préhistorique de Monaco.

The event on Saturday, 19th October, will run from 9am to 6pm and promises a full day of games, demonstrations and hands-on workshops. Visitors will have the chance to meet fascinating figures from Monaco’s top scientific organisations and associations, including the aforementioned Centre Scientifique de Monaco and Musée d’Anthropologie Préhistorique de Monaco, as well as the Monaco Media Library, the Monegasque Association for Nature, the Speleoclub of Monaco and the Monegasque Association of Prehistory.

The Fontvieille Commercial Centre will be transformed into a hub of scientific discovery for people of all ages. There will be family-friendly activities, interactive exhibits, a science-themed Escape Game and much more, providing plenty of opportunities to dive into the world of science in a fun and engaging way.

This year’s event is backed by Carrefour, SOGEDA, and the Mairie de Monaco.

easyJet announces new Nice-Strasbourg flight in time for Christmas

If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring Strasbourg’s famous Christkindelsmärik market or enjoying a hearty meal of Alsatian cuisine in a medieval tavern by the riverside, visiting this regional capital in northerneastern France just got easier thanks to a new easyJet connection between Nice and the city.

It was announced earlier this month that low-cost airline easyJet will operate a new direct flight from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport to the Strasbourg Entzheim airport from November until March.

The news is well-timed as the city will soon begin preparations for its celebrated Christkindelsmärik market, which takes over central Strasbourg for a full month in the lead-up to Christmas.

Every year, an estimated two million visitors come to see the market, which is reputed to be one of the oldest markets in Europe, having begun in 1570, and enjoy all the sights, sounds and smells of this major festive event.

There will be a flight with easyJet five days a week, running every day except for Tuesday and Saturday. The flight takes around an hour and 10 minutes, and the average price of a one-way ticket is €66.

Red alert halts all TER train services in Monaco and Alpes-Maritime

The Alpes-Maritimes has been placed on a red alert for extreme weather, prompting the complete suspension of all regional TER train services from 5:30pm on Thursday 17th October. The highest weather warning, issued due to severe storms and heavy rainfall, is in effect from 6pm, with the risk of significant flooding expected across the region.

The decision to halt train services in the Alpes Maritimes and Monaco is a precautionary measure as authorities prepare for the potential disruption caused by intense rainfall. Travelers are urged to stay informed and check for updates on the SNCF TER SUD PACA website and the Monaco Monte-Carlo station’s real-time schedule, as the situation remains subject to change.

With public transport impacted, carpooling is being encouraged as an alternative means of travel. Platforms such as BlaBlaCar Daily are offering flexible, government-supported solutions to help passengers between Monaco and other destinations. Travelers are also advised to use the SNCF app and Twitter for up-to-date information on transport options during the red alert.

The public is reminded to remain cautious, avoid non-essential travel, and follow official guidance as this severe weather system continues to affect the region.
