Monaco Employment Forum to return with luxury brands, yachting, and housing solutions

In less than a week, the Monaco pour l’Emploi forum will return for its third edition, introducing a dedicated luxury sector, an expanded presence from the yachting industry, and innovative recruitment solutions for both job seekers and employers. The government has also announced that thousands of accommodation options will be made available for seasonal workers, addressing a key challenge in the Principality’s job market.

Monaco’s Minister for Social Affairs and Health Christophe Robino hosted a press conference on 18th February to outline the key additions to this year’s Monaco pour l’Emploi forum, which will take place on 24th February at the Grimaldi Forum. Now in its third edition, the event continues to grow, serving as both a dynamic recruitment platform and a showcase of the Principality’s thriving job market. This year sees the introduction of a dedicated luxury sector, improved accommodation solutions for seasonal workers, and enhanced digital tools to streamline recruitment.

Tackling the accommodation challenge for seasonal workers

A long-standing barrier to employment in Monaco, particularly in hospitality and tourism, is the difficulty of securing housing. Robino described the government’s latest initiative as a significant step forward: a partnership with CROUS, the French student housing organisation, to provide seasonal workers with access to university accommodation between April and September.

“There is no fixed number of apartments available,” he explained, “but we estimate that thousands of units, primarily in Nice and its surrounding areas, will be accessible.” This solution, he noted, is a response to one of the most pressing issues faced by businesses and workers alike. By offering affordable lodging options, the government aims to attract more seasonal workers to Monaco, ensuring that key sectors such as hospitality and retail remain fully staffed during peak seasons.

Luxury sector joins the forum for the first time

One of the most notable additions to the 2025 forum is a dedicated space for the luxury industry. Robino highlighted the increasing demand for skilled professionals in this sector, which has traditionally been underrepresented at the event. This year, several prestigious brands—including Louis Vuitton, Tiffany, and APM Monaco—will be present, looking to recruit across a range of roles.

“These companies are seeking talent at all levels, from retail management to administrative support and luxury sales,” Robino revealed, noting that customer service in the luxury sector is highly specialised, requiring an approach inspired by high-end hospitality and personalised client relations.

For job seekers, this expansion means access to new career opportunities within some of the world’s most renowned brands. According to Robino, Monaco’s status as a hub for luxury commerce makes it an attractive place for those looking to enter or advance in the industry.

A dynamic platform showcasing the advantages of working in Monaco

Beyond facilitating job placements, Monaco pour l’Emploi is designed to highlight the many advantages of working in the Principality. Robino described the forum as more than just a hiring event—it is an opportunity to showcase Monaco as a premier employment destination. With its strong economy, career growth prospects, and labour protections, Monaco continues to attract top talent from across the region.

The event also serves as a vital meeting point for businesses, government services, and job seekers. Employers will not only present vacancies but also provide insights into career development, interview techniques, and industry trends. Robino stressed that the forum is structured to create meaningful exchanges, offering candidates a deeper understanding of potential career paths in Monaco.

To enhance this interactive experience, several new features have been introduced. A digital job board managed by the DICN will allow for real-time job postings, while an interactive QR code map will help attendees navigate the event. Meanwhile, a dedicated space for confidential one-on-one interviews will enable more in-depth discussions between recruiters and job seekers.

With nearly 4,000 square metres of exhibition space and a record number of over 3,800 pre-registered visitors, this year’s Monaco pour l’Emploi is set to be the most comprehensive yet.

Bowling, burgers, and video games: a new American-style entertainment centre proposed for Cap d’Ail

A new entertainment venue featuring an American-style diner, gaming lounges, and a bowling alley could soon open in Cap d’Ail. MITO Investments has submitted a €3 million proposal to transform a prime commercial space in the Z.A.C. Saint Antoine complex into a state-of-the-art leisure centre. The project is one of several currently under review by local authorities following the recent call for applications.

The proposed venue would span 1,273 m² on the ground floor of the Z.A.C. Saint Antoine complex, an area adjacent to Monaco’s Fontvieille district. If approved, the centre will offer eight bowling lanes, a dining area inspired by classic American diners, and dedicated spaces for video games, sports simulators, and e-sports tournaments. MITO Investments is a Miami-based holding company led by Italian entrepreneur Mirko Tocchio.

“With this project, we aim to offer Monaco a new entertainment destination that is innovative and suitable for all ages,” said Tocchio in a statement. “Our lounges, featuring video games and sports simulators, will create a space where young people can have fun, while the entire venue will be designed to cater to all visitors.”

The project aligns with the vision of local authorities who, in announcing the business opportunity in January, called for entrepreneurs to develop a dynamic recreational facility, catering to a wide range of activities and attracting both local residents and visitors. They envision a bowling facility as a central feature as well as a snack bar for patrons.

The commercial space in question is located in the lower section of the Z.A.C. Saint Antoine area of Cap d’Ail. The call for applications to lease the premises closed on 14th February, and local authorities are now reviewing proposals from interested entrepreneurs.

The financial terms for leasing the space have been outlined by the Société Domaniale d’Exploitation. The arrangement includes an annual variable rent set at 6% of the net annual turnover, with a minimum guaranteed annual rent of €318,250, inclusive of all taxes.

The development comes in the wake of the closure of the Ni Box, a former entertainment venue in Monaco that was demolished to make way for the new Mareterra district.

If approved, the entertainment centre is expected to be completed within one year.

Monaco named 2025’s must-see European destination of the year

For the second year in a row, Monaco has secured a podium finish in European Best Destinations’ rankings, earning the accolade of being the “must-see European destination of 2025”.

European Best Destinations (EBD), a website that has been promoting European hotspots to millions of travellers, tourism professionals and travel media since 2009, has awarded Monaco the top spot as its 2025 Must-See Destination of the Year category.

This prestigious recognition was awarded through the votes of 1.2 million people from 158 different countries, with nearly 10% selecting Monaco as the best destination in Europe. It marks the first time since Bordeaux in 2015 that a French-speaking city has taken the top position. In addition to Monaco’s success, two nearby French towns also made it into the Top 20 this year: Èze in 15th place and Cassis in 18th.

Following Monaco, Riga was named the second-best destination, while Dubrovnik secured third place. Madrid and Belgium’s Namur rounded out the top five.

HOW IT WORKS

To be in the running for a European Best Destination award, cities and destinations must be nominated by tourism offices, local governments or travel associations. The EBD team then evaluates the proposals based on criteria such as tourist appeal, quality of life, cultural attractions, sustainability efforts and visitor satisfaction.

Shortlisted destinations are then put to a public online vote on the website. Voting remains open for several weeks, allowing global participation. Destinations are ranked according to the number of votes received.

“A DREAMLIKE EXPERIENCE”

In its appraisal of the Principality, EBD notes, “This prestigious title highlights Monaco as a unique destination, setting the standard for high-quality travel experiences in Europe. A perfect blend of sustainability, luxury, culture, gastronomy, wellness, sport and year-round events, Monaco offers an exceptional experience for all travellers.”

The review graciously concludes, “Monaco is not just a destination—it’s a dreamlike experience that cannot be found anywhere else.”

The key question now is whether this award will translate into long-term tourism growth. EBD claims that “previous winners and destinations ranked in the Top 10 have reported tourism growth of up to 25%” following their presence in the rankings, though whether this will actually come to pass is yet to be determined.

Monaco’s Tourism and Congress Directorate is currently conducting a survey in collaboration with IMSEE into the tourist experience in the Principality. The study, spanning the entirety of 2025, aims to better understand visitor demographics and preferences, with results expected in 2026.

Tatiana Casiraghi and daughter star in Muzungu Sisters’ new ethical fashion campaign

Glamourous businesswoman and socialite Tatiana Casiraghi, wife of Andrea Casiraghi, the elder son of Princess Caroline of Hanover, has unveiled a captivating new campaign for her ethical and artisanal fashion brand, Muzungu Sisters. This time, she is joined by a special collaborator, her young daughter, who is learning from her mother the importance of sustainability, traditional values, and beautiful fashion.

Muzungu Sisters, co-founded in 2011 by Casiraghi and Dana Alikhani, derives its name from the Swahili word for “traveller” or “wanderer.” The brand seeks to connect local artisans with a broader global audience and commissions handcrafted goods from remote communities, helping to bring their unique craftsmanship into the spotlight.

Casiraghi is an American-born Colombian-Monegasque socialite, heiress, and fashion designer who has long been dedicated to sustainable fashion. Born into the wealthy Santo Domingo family of Colombia, the 41-year-old is married to Andrea Casiraghi, the eldest son of Caroline, Princess of Hanover, herself the elder sister of Prince Albert II of Monaco. Casiraghi generally shies away from the camera but has made a striking exception with this latest campaign, where she shares the stage with her soon-to-be 10-year-old daughter, India.

The mother-daughter pair radiates warmth and elegance in the campaign shots. Their presence brings a personal touch to the collection, which draws inspiration from the beauty of Bengal tigers. The offbeat, original aesthetic blends timeless style and cool modern vibes, creating a heady mix.

This is not the first time that mother and daughter have posed together for a campaign. In 2022, they were photographed together for the launch of the Muzungu Sisters’ Kids collection. This latest campaign reinforces their family connection while championing the sustainable and artisanal values that Casiraghi holds dear.

Through her brand and its focus on sustainability, Casiraghi hopes to inspire younger generations to recognise the importance of ethical fashion. By incorporating sustainable materials and preserving artisanal craftsmanship, the brand emphasises that fashion is not just about aesthetics—it’s also about responsibility.

A new age of train travel begins on the Côte d’Azur

The Côte d’Azur has entered a new era of rail travel. A train now runs every 15 minutes along the coast – including on weekends – and punctuality is already up to 97% barely two months after the first train under the SNCF Voyageurs Sud Azur subsidiary got on the rails.

On 14th February, just under two months on from the launch of the new and improved SNCF Voyageurs Sud Azur service, officials from France and Monaco gathered at the central Nice-Ville train station to celebrate a new age of train travel in the region.

SNCF Voyageurs Sud Azur is a competitive subsidiary of SNCF Voyages that was selected by the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region as part of the tender for the coastal sector of the regional train network. It has a 10-year contract to operate the Les Arcs–Ventimiglia, Cannes–Grasse and Nice–Tende routes, and has already brought in sweeping changes to improve the passenger experience and regional mobility on the second busiest network in France.

Since 15th December, a train has run in both directions between Cannes and Menton every 15 minutes, seven days a week. The schedule has been further expanded, with these trains in service until 10pm on weekdays and until 2am on weekends.

See more: Trains now running every 15 minutes along the Côte d’Azur

As part of a €226 million investment into the service, 22 trains have been modernised too, and various stations along the route are benefiting from renovations and upgrades that will allow them to better manage the growing number of passengers.

Céline Caron-Dagioni, Minister of Equipment, Environment and Urban Planning, represented the Principality at the official launch of the service last week and spoke about the evolving role of train travel in Monaco, which has seen passenger numbers grow by a massive 60% in the last decade. Indeed, in 2024, nine million passengers passed through the Gare de Monaco Monte-Carlo.

“We have demanded clear commitments, and we will ensure they are upheld,” said Caron-Dagioni of Monaco’s demands for a more regular and reliable service. “We will analyse schedules, the frequency of delays and the availability of double trains at peak hours… The Principality remains committed to developing the TER network for commuters and visitors alike, while working closely with French authorities to ensure the future of regional mobility.”

And it is fair to say that the initial results look good. Renaud Muselier, the president of the PACA region, has reported a 10% rise in ridership and a 97% punctuality rate since the new SNCF Voyageurs Sud Azur-run service began operating at the end of last year, a strong indicator that the network is already improving its reliability rates. In 2023, TER trains on the Côte d’Azur ranked last in all of France for punctuality.

Furthermore, regional authorities have promised to increase security measures on all public transport, and Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi has confirmed that there will be a 34% boost to security and ticket inspection staff numbers across the metropolitan network under the new service.

Cross-border cooperation

In related news, earlier this month, Monaco’s acting Minister of State Isabelle Berro-Amadeï attended a meeting of the French-Italian Border Cooperation Committee alongside high-level officials from both nations, including Jean-Noël Barrot, France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Antonio Tajani, Italy’s own Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Established under the 2021 Quirinal Treaty with the goal of better addressing cross-border issues such as education and healthcare, the Committee this time focused on the environment and transport networks, including rail travel. The Monaco contingent was invited to participate as an observer state due to its proximity to the area covered by the treaty and the Principality’s keen involvement in an array of projects in the region.

The reopening of the Tende tunnel, scheduled for June, was high on the agenda at the recent talks, as was the Fréjus Railway that runs between Turin and Modane. The latter route was closed following a major landslide in August 2023. The talks also covered ongoing improvements and renovations to the Nice-Ventimiglia line.

Other topics on the meeting’s agenda included sustainable water management in the Roya Valley, a key resource for the Principality, the development of bilingual schools in Menton and Ventimiglia, and the Corsica-Sardinia ferry link.
