The Monaco Yacht Club hosted a memorable evening on Wednesday 25th June, as the Sovereign Military Order of Malta celebrated its National Day. The evening’s highlight was a distinguished concert featuring Italian baritone Alberto Gazale.
Accompanied by pianist Marco Francesco Schirru, the performance followed a welcome cocktail reception that brought together guests for an evening that combined art with the Order’s humanitarian mission.
Ambassador Alberto di Luca of the Sovereign Order of Malta also delivered an address that highlighted the organisation’s role in addressing global challenges.
“In 2025, a regiment faces global challenges of unprecedented complexity — devastating conflict, humanitarian catastrophe,” he said.”This means the defence of faith and service to people. We renew our commitment to act as a force of justice and hope.”
The Ambassador highlighted the Order’s collaboration with the Principality as an exemplary model, noting significant humanitarian achievements over their 15-year diplomatic relationship.
“We have achieved concrete results in various fields, from humanitarian support in Lebanon and Senegal to accompanying children suffering from cardiac pathologies through cardiac surgeries.” he explained.
Di Luca also mentioned an ambitious new project involving the hospital Henry Ferrari in Bethlehem, which will formalise “a pioneering model of humanitarian cooperation” in collaboration with Rotary clubs from Monaco, Milan, Dubai, and Bethlehem.
Operatic excellence
Afterwards, Gazale took centre stage with a carefully curated programme spanning the great traditions of Italian opera.
The Italian baritone, recognised as one of the finest of his generation, opened with Leoncavallo’s Prologue from Pagliacci, featuring the famous ‘Si può? Si può?’ – an intense reflection on the boundary between fiction and truth.
He continued with highlights from Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi, and Giordano, each piece showcasing his incredible vocal range.
Thoughout the performance, pianist Marco Francesco Schirru provided accompaniment. The pianist is recognised for his work with renowned operatic artists and his involvement in rediscovering rare repertoires.
After the concert wrapped-up, guests enjoyed cocktails and gourmet canapés.
“It is with this perspective that we look towards life, strong in our fidelity and our mission,” Ambassador di Luca concluded.
