Téo Andant’s season keeps getting better and better. The AS Monaco Athletics runner won the 400m race in the French Championships on Sunday.
Andant has already set a personal best (45″18) this season, meaning that he went into Sunday’s final as one of the hot favourites. Having eased through his heat on Saturday with a 46″14, he was up against the fastest 400m in France in Giles Biron (45″05).
French champion today, Olympic runner tomorrow?
Andant had to sprint to the line to narrowly beat David Sombé. The AS Monaco Athletics runner (45″60) beat his compatriot by just eight thousandths of a second. Biron gave too much at the start of the race and ran out of steam on the final straight, meaning he could only manage third (46″05).
Andant’s performance in Albi will be enough for him to form part of France’s 4x400m team at the upcoming World Championships, which take place in Budapest later this month. However, the AS Monaco runner will now have his sights higher. Now the Champion of France, Andant will have the Paris 2024 Olympics in his line of vision.
