With two back-to-back wins in high-scoring games, AS Monaco Basket is pulling ahead in the EuroLeague rankings. Following their victory over Maccabi Tel-Aviv, the Roca Team has taken first place in the standings.
The Roca Team’s second EuroLeague game of the season, a fixture that saw the Monaco side face Maccabi Tel-Aviv at the Salle Gaston Médecin on Wednesday 9th October, was both tough and challenging. However, the team was clearly energised and motivated to maintain their unbeaten record since the opener against Olimpia Milano.
The game was hard-fought, with the two teams neck and neck throughout the first half. By half-time, the Roca Boys were trailing by a single point, but they stormed back in the final two quarters to win 85-79.
“We expected a difficult game, like all EuroLeague games,” said Coach Sasa Obradovic. “The team didn’t play its best, but the important thing is the victory. The first half was tough, but after the break, we improved. It takes time for players returning from injuries, as some lack rhythm. We’ll work on the details in the coming days, but we showed some good things.”
The top scorers of the game were Mike James and Elie Okobo, with 17 points each. Donatas Motiejunas also had a strong game, contributing 11 points to the final tally.
The win puts the team ahead of their second-placed EuroLeague rivals, Crvena Zvezda.
The Roca Team will be back in action on Saturday 12th October for a Betclic Elite game against Stade Rochelais at home in Monaco.
