Capes and masks at the ready for Monaco’s superhero-themed carnival

Carnival season is well and truly underway on the Riviera, with the historic Carnaval de Nice already enchanting crowds and the Fête du Citron in Menton due to begin this weekend. Monaco is set to celebrate with its own colourful carnival at the end of the month, when a superhero-themed affair will take over the Marché de la Condamine.

Monaco’s carnival experience will take place on Friday 28th February from 4.30pm until 6.30pm. Open to all, the event is being jointly organised by the Mairie de Monaco and the local Entreparents network.

Last year’s edition saw families gather at both the Marché de la Condamine and the Marché de Monte-Carlo on Avenue Saint-Charles, where stilt walkers, jugglers, contortionists and acrobats performed alongside balloon makers and face painters. Children arrived in costumes ranging from princesses and superheroes to dragons and unicorns.

This year’s event will feature similar entertainment, including balloon sculptors, a magician, a face-painting stand and lively music, but the focus will be squarely on the Marché de la Condamine. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite superheroes. Parents and guardians should note that confetti will not be allowed.

The carnival is a popular family event in Monaco, offering a space for the community to gather and celebrate in a festive setting, and all activities will be free of charge.

This year’s edition is themed King of the Oceans and will include a special tribute to Costa Rica, which is co-hosting the 2025 UN Ocean Conference with Nice. The Fête du Citron in Menton will begin on Saturday 15th February and continue until Sunday 2nd March.
