An ambassador for Peace and Sport has been reported missing off Hawaii. Guo Chuan was on a solo voyage from San Francisco to Shanghai as part of a round the world trip that would have been the first completed by a Chinese national.
His 30-metre trimaran, the Qingdao China, was emblazoned with the name Peace and Sport, the Monaco-based organisation that promotes sport and its values as an instrument of peace worldwide.
Guo Chuan, 51, was reported lost by his shore-based support team on Wednesday, October 26. A rescue team later arrived onboard the vessel to find no trace of the sailor. A US Coast Guard spokesman said that “Mr Chuan was a professional sailor with a huge passion for sailing. We extend our deepest condolences not only to his family and friends, but also his team and the sailing community.”
