There can be no better way to discover the hybrid of two Italian super-brands than over Champagne and waffles, as provided by interior designer Sabrina Monte-Carlo.

SMEG, founded in 1948 in Italy, and the fashion house Dolce&Gabbana have produced the “Sicily is my Love” collection, a selection of retro-chic small appliances that have been lovingly designed and hand painted.

Biting into my waffle, I see the stunning Marpessa Hennink, the original muse and star of Dolce&Gabbana’s first ever Fall/Winter collection, who’s also eyeing SMEG’s limited-edition designer fridge, price tag: €33,000.

Other items in the collection – toasters, juicers, kettles, blenders and mixers – flaunt golden lemons, citrus fruits, prickly pears, and bright red cherries framed in triangular motifs called Crocchi. All symbols of the “Sicily is my Love” are inextricably linked to Sicily, home to the soul of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

There are, additionally, delicate floral motifs inspired by the coasts and landscapes of Southern Italy and images of Mt Etna, surrounded by ornamental friezes and a stylised pattern of acanthus leaves.
