Enchanting ballet season in Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum: a feast for dance enthusiasts

The world of ballet is set to dazzle and inspire as Monaco Dance Forum announces its captivating 2023/24 ballet season. The stunning performances, taking place at the Grimaldi Forum, promise to deliver a unique blend of dance, artistry, and emotion. Let’s dive into the enchanting lineup of performances awaiting ballet enthusiasts in Monaco.

Kicking off the season is ‘C’est Beau!’ presented by 6eSens and DK-Bel on 14th December, at Salle Camille Blanc in the Grimaldi Forum. This spectacular performance explores the beauty of dance and its power to evoke personal, collective, and even universal emotions. Featuring dancers with and without disabilities, this production is a testament to the inclusivity and diversity that the world of dance embraces.

On 15th and 16th December 2023, the stage at Salle Prince Pierre in Grimaldi Forum will come alive with ‘Sol Invictus’ by Hervé Koubi company. This performance is a luminous and generous declaration of love for dance, weaving together elements of hip-hop physicality and classical elegance. ‘Sol Invictus’ is a celebration of the bonds that connect us, the cycles of life, and the journey of rediscovering the wonder and curiosity of childhood.

From 20th to 23rd December, the Grimaldi Forum’s Salle des Princes will host a grand spectacle featuring 240 artists on stage. ‘La Valse’ by George Balanchine will set the stage for the evenings, followed by ‘L’Enfant et les Sortilèges’, a new creation by Jean-Christophe Maillot. This exceptional performance brings together the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Choirs of the Monte-Carlo Opera, and the Children’s Choir of the Rainier III Academy of Music and Theatre, creating a captivating blend of music and dance.

‘Carmen’, choreographed by Johan Inger, will grace the stage on 30th December, and continue through to 4th January 2024, at the Salle des Princes. This passionate and feisty interpretation of the classic is reinvented, offering a fresh perspective on the age-old tale of seduction and violence. It’s Carmen who remains free, courageous, and contemporary, reflecting our modern times while preserving the essence of the original.

The Ballets de Monte-Carlo will present ‘To the Point(e)’ from 24th to 28th April 2024, at the Salle des Princes. This extraordinary evening features three exceptional ballets: ‘Within the Golden Hour’ by Christopher Wheeldon, ‘Vers un Pays Sage’ by Jean-Christophe Maillot, and ‘Autodance’ by Sharon Eyal. This unique program offers a fresh perspective on the world of ballet, combining classical elegance and contemporary innovation.

A grand finale: the gala of the Princess Grace Academy

The ballet season culminates with the Gala of the Princess Grace Academy on 21st and 22nd June 2024, at the Salle Garnier Opera in Monte-Carlo. This gala highlights the rising talent of the Academy’s dancers, offering a glimpse of the future stars in the international ballet scene.
