The rainy weather of early Sunday morning failed to discourage the many runners who braved the Monaco 10 km.
The 5 km Pink Ribbon Walk, which raises awareness for breast cancer, also brought together more than 300 supporters, with many dressed, as usual, in colourful apparel.
In the main event, two runners quickly escaped to be alone in the lead. The Nice-Côte d’Azur Athlete Karim Tahri broke away midway to win in 31:14, ahead of the Carabinier of AS Monaco Quentin Chiai, who gave everything in 31:47, and the Italian Jacopo Boscarini in 31:51.
In the women’s competition, the Val de Gray triathlete Mathilde Gautier won in 37:04, more than two minutes ahead of Poland’s Katarzyna Anna Stankiewicz in 39:34.
The awards ceremony was held on the Quai Albert 1er under an intensifying rain, in the presence of many Monaco personalities including the Minister of Interior Patrice Cellario and the current holder of the Women’s Marathon World Record, Paula Radcliffe.
