Almost 80 employees of the Meridien Beach Plaza hotel in Monaco walked off the job on Thursday morning, starting at 6:30 am. The workers said that their demands for higher wages were not being addressed by management.
A union official, Franck Baret, said that the hotel manager has not responded to any of the workers’ demands. “It is a dialogue of the deaf,” he said. The protest is due to last 24 hours, but will be renewed if management fails to respond, the strikers said.
The industrial action took place on the first day of the Top Marques super car show and the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters event, both of which attract large numbers of visitors to Monaco. The same hotel, on avenue Princesse Grace, has faced strike action in the past, not always on the topic of wages.
