The IAAF Diamond League takes place in Monaco on Friday, July 20, the tenth meeting in the 2018 series. As always, the athletics world is anticipating a number of highlights at Stade Louis II, as world 1,500m champion Elijah Manangoi leads a large group of Kenyan stars.
The Commonwealth Games champion has his eyes on a world record in the four lap race and he hopes to put an end to compatriot Timothy Cheruiyot’s flawless cruise in the Diamond League. The two are part of over 20 elite runners from Kenya who left for Monaco on Tuesday, Xinhua reports.
Leaving Nairobi on Tuesday, Manangoi said: “All training has gone well and hopefully a fast time will fall in place for me.” Manangoi and Cheruiyot traveled together, but there will be no love lost when they meet on the track in Monaco. Cheruiyot clocked a world leading time of 3:29.71 in Paris last week.
