A team from Monaco’s Directorate of Platforms and Digital Resources, responsible for the technology element of operations at large-scale events in the Principality, has been dispatched across the border to assist with the running of vital communication systems during the ongoing Olympic Games.

The behind-the-scenes running of a high-profile occasion such as the Olympic Games is all too often overlooked by the public, but it is nonetheless a crucial part of a successful event.

This is something that the team at Monaco’s Directorate of Platforms and Digital Resources (DPRN), which comes under the scope of the Interministerial Delegation Responsible for the Digital Transition, knows well, having previously been in charge of managing the communications elements of events such as the Monaco Grand Prix, the Monaco Yacht Show and the recent Tour de France stage in the Principality.

Now the team has been thanked for playing an “integral role” in setting up the radio frequency management systems needed for the 2024 Olympics, a vital service that ensures lines of communication can remain open and active during heavy usage periods.

The Monaco-based team, led by Frédéric Rué and Hubert Phan, was tasked with assisting workers at the Test & Tagging office at Nice’s Allianz Riviera. Among the jobs assigned to the DPRN workers was the monitoring of all radio equipment, keeping track of wireless devices and ensuring allocated frequencies are available when needed.

Some of the devices they have been entrusted with include cameras, walkie-talkies, live-filmed field reports and security vehicle radios, which all require real-time connections.

In addition, they have been asked to coordinate this usage with the regular usage of frequencies from local third-parties, including television, radio, boat and aircraft emissions in collaboration with the French National Frequency Agency across all Olympic sites in France.
