Monaco’s prehistory museum to explore the historic roads of the Roya Valley

Ahead of the European Heritage Days initiative, which will be held in cultural centres and institutions across the continent between 21st and 22nd September, the Musée d’Anthropologie Préhistorique de Monaco will be hosting a special conference on 15th September.

The talk, led by Silvia Sandrone, the director of the Musée Départemental des Merveilles in Tende, will explore the history of the roads in the Roya Valley.

The paths and roadways that wind through this mountainous area of southeastern France, located to the northeast of the Principality, have played a vital role in communications in the region for millennia. A temporary exhibit on the same theme is currently being held at the Tende museum. It will continue until 28th August.

The conference in Monaco is free to attend, but spaces are limited. It will be held at the dedicated prehistory museum in the Jardin Exotique neighbourhood at 2pm on 15th September.

Lascaux exhibit

While you’re at the museum, be sure to check out the ‘Lascaux à Monaco’ exhibition, which features faithful reproductions of the wonders of the famous caves. The exhibit will remain open to the public until 19th November.
