Monaco based Silversea Cruises has taken out four first place wins in the 9th annual Cruise Critic Cruisers’ Choice Awards on Wednesday. Among the accolades, Silver Galapagos was voted Best Shore Excursions and Best Value-for-Money.
Silver Galapagos was built in 1990 and is actually the smallest in the fleet
The awards are based on consumer ratings and reviews posted to Cruise Criticover the past year. The world’s largest online cruise community, Cruise Critic features more than 350,000 cruise reviews, covering nearly 700 ships.
“At a time when travelers have a seemingly unlimited choice of which cruise to take – from the biggest and flashiest, to the most intimate and luxurious – there’s never been a better time to cruise,” says Colleen McDaniel, senior executive editor of Cruise Critic.
“But that also makes ship selection more important than ever. What’s really special about our Cruisers’ Choice Awards is that they’re based solely on ratings from cruisers themselves. And with so much changing in the cruise industry year after year – new ships, refurbishments, redeployments – these awards serve as a true finger-on-the-pulse of the industry, highlighting which ships are best serving their customers’ needs and expectations in real-time.”
Voted the best Overall Ship in 2019
The awards cover four ship size classes: large (2,000+ passengers); mid-size (1,200 to 1,999 passengers); small-mid size (400 to 1,199 passengers); and small (fewer than 400 passengers).
Silver Galapagos took out the following wins:
Best Overall Ship (Small Ship Category)
Best Public Rooms (Small Ship Category)
Best Shore Excursions (Small Ship Category)
Best Value-for-Money (Small Ship Category)

Monaco Telecom is launching the first commercial mobile network open to compatible terminals up to 1 Gbit/s. Monaco’s telecoms provider claims this represents a decisive step towards 5G, developed in partnership with Huawei. The Monegasque operator is one of the best performers in the world, it says.
After deploying the first European network in 450Mbps, Monaco Telecom optimised the entire infrastructure of its 4G network to offer speeds of more than 900Mbps. This performance is achieved with Huawei through the combination of a 10Giga Network Function Virtualised (NFV) core and a RAN cloud access solution.
The Monegasque mobile network is now ready to welcome the first smartphones able to support this new technology. The increase in available throughput also improves the experience of all users connected to the Principality, while respecting the environmental standards in force.
Martin Peronnet, Managing Director of Monaco Telecom, said: “One Gbit/s is today the maximum speed reachable by a terminal. We wanted to be among the first to offer these performances to our subscribers. This project was carried out in parallel with a very heavy investment to obtain an excellent indoor and outdoor coverage throughout the Principality, one of the most complex territories to cover given its topography and its density.”
"Huawei's mission is to support operators in their digital transformation, especially by providing them with the best in cloud infrastructure and networking technologies," said Karl Song, Managing Director of Huawei France. "Video is one of the pillars of growth for operators and we are proud of the technological partnership with Monaco Telecom, which offers a unique experience to their customers."
