There are no if, and, or buts about it, winter is definitely coming (don’t let the odd day of sun fool you). There’s a chill in the air, the days are greyer, the Christmas decorations have begun to pop up around the Principality and Starbucks is playing non-stop Christmas music.
Layering is a must now, bring those winter boots out and call the furrier. All around Monaco pieces from the Fall/Winter 17 runways are popping up on residents turning Monte Carlo into one big fashion show and I love it although it makes my head ache trying to mentally register all the labels. Although the streets are getting scarcer the competition is getting fiercer. Style never sleeps, even when there’s nobody around. Here are my favourite looks from the weekend.
@camilacountinho Brazilian superstar blogger Camila Coutinho popped in for the weekend. If you noticed an influx of stylish Brazilians in town, MOB brand was in town for a campaign shoot starring Coutinho and supermodel and L’Oréal Ambassador Valentina Sampaio. Camila, best known for her blog “Stupid Girls”, looked holiday party ready at the port in a gray lurex dress with a choker collar. Against a backdrop of the carnival Camila was a shining star looking radiant in a simple but glam makeup look. Shot by Bruna Valenca, I’m kinda obsessed with Camila and her sparkling night vibes.
@tocestyle Freeze The Breeze swimwear designer Antoniya decided she wanted to play with contrasts for her weekend looks. Duality with black and white, soft and feminine with a touch of hardness. A casual knit jumper juxtaposed with a black leather Chanel bag attached to a belt for a bit of S&M chic in a way Karl Lagerfeld makes romantic white pants (who cares if it’s after Labour Day), loafers perfect for Saturday strolls around the Condamine and a black leather jacket in case the sun decides to hide again makes for a pretty interesting look, simple but not so much. That Chanel bag/belt really elevated this look. This holiday season remember that accessories make the outfit!
@jonathan_germain Resident influencer Jonathan Germain blessed us with his presence out and about in Monaco with his perfectly shaped eyebrows. Has a good boy gone bad? That seems to be the look he was channelling in a leather jacket by German brand Tigha. With a tiger on the back and the “Tigha Pride” logo Jonathan wasn’t trying to stand out in a sea of boring moto jackets. Writing to his 340K followers “baby I can make your dreams come true” this style genie has us double tapping obsessively on his “grams”.
@messalina72 This lover of her “beautiful life” and someone’s “official girlfriend” was craving something sweet this weekend but her outfit had me feeling a bit salty. Channelling the Edwardian or maybe Victorian era in a white ruffled blouse under a cheetah fur coat, leather pants, fringed boots, and a Hermès belt her look was romantically roaringly aggressive at the candy market. She seems to enjoy a little sugar in her life. Overall the look is cute and the leather pants really elevate it past basic.
@kseniya_korp My fave look of the weekend, to be honest, came from this Russian gem. In between dashing around the Principality and having Michelin-starred meals, Kseniya kept it casual and chic in a blue fitted blazer over a red and white striped sweater (how positively nautical!), a navy blue current season Lady Dior bag, blue skinny jeans, cute ankle booties from current season Dior accessorised with a Chanel brooch and currently sold out Gucci L’Aveugle Par Amour sunglasses.
I mean this look is everything and shows you that piling on designer doesn’t have to be tacky or in your face. She knows she’s in Dior, I know she’s in Dior, you know she’s in Dior because I just told you but not in a way that says look at me. This look (though not the specific brands I named) is very accessible and achievable. It’s a summer look redone for cooler temperatures. Kseniya wins the weekend style roundup.
Monaco’s National Day, celebrated on Tuesday, was filled with all wonderful pomp and ceremony the people of the Principality have come to expect, but this year, the crowds had even more. Everyone was positively enchanted by the nearly five-year old princely twins, who adorably made the day. National Day, held every 19th November, is about […]
A rare survivor of the nuclear blast that effectively ended World War II in the Pacific has spoken to a group of mesmerised students and staff members at Lycée Albert I. Organised by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), The high school’s history and geography class were told the incredible and sad true […]
October has come to be known as ‘Pink October’ and many Monegasque organisations, as well as the government, are supporting the cause. Roughly two million women were diagnosed with breast cancer last year worldwide and of those an estimated 627,000 will die from the disease. That comes out to 15% of all cancer deaths for […]
A joint meeting was held last week between the Monegasque Ambassador to the US and Honorary Consuls from nine major North American cities to discuss collaborative efforts for the next calendar year. Considered one of America’s greenest cities, Seattle was the setting for the confluence and attracted the Monaco representatives for its achievements regarding environmental […]
Teenage star Kylian Mbappe will remain at Monaco for at least one more season, according to a number of reliable press reports. Giving added credibility is the fact that the 18-year-old returned to training with the rest of the Monaco squad on Monday.
It is also believed that he has agreed a property lease close to the team’s training centre, meaning he will move out of the team’s communal living complex.
As the summer transfer window draws to a close, there has been very keen interest for Mbappe from three top European teams: Arsenal, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. Extensive talks have taken place with Kylian’s father, Wilfried, but it appears the young star would like to stay with the team for which he scored 15 league goals. He was also the youngest scorer in a Champions League semifinal.
While nothing has yet been confirmed, it’s believed that Mbappe’s weekly wages with Monaco will be in excess of €100,000 a week, making him the highest-paid teenager in football.
Alexis Jacquemond, a 20-year-old from Cap d’Ail, has been killed in a scooter accident at the exit of the IM2S tunnel, while travelling in the direction of Nice. Although the accident took place in the early hours of Saturday, July 15, it came to light only on Tuesday, three days later.
The young man had been travelling from a barbecue at Le Méridien in Monaco and was being followed by a friend on a second scooter when Alexis lost control of his vehicle approaching the exit of the tunnel, violently hitting the parapet.
Alerted by his friend, the Monaco fire service, paramedics and the police attended the scene, but the young man could not be saved.
