An extension to the Wurtemberg footbridge connecting the Les Salines car park to the Fontvieille district opened to the public on 23rd April, as part of the Princely Government’s ongoing programme to improve pedestrian routes across the Principality.
From the exit of the Galerie des Salines, the new section of footbridge leads directly to two lifts and a staircase. At present, these serve Place Wurtemberg — marked as level PW in the lifts. A direct connection to Avenue de Fontvieille, at level AF, is expected to be operational by the end of May 2026.
Previously, pedestrian access in this area relied on lifts shared with the Wurtemberg car park, making journeys between Les Salines and Fontvieille less direct. The new dedicated infrastructure is intended to improve both the flow and comfort of these routes, particularly during periods of high footfall.
The opening of the extension has also made it possible to dismantle a temporary staircase that had been installed at Place Wurtemberg, allowing work on the square itself to continue.
