Norris breaks Monegasque hearts with narrow win over Leclerc in dramatic Monaco Grand Prix

Lando Norris claimed victory at the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, fending off local hero Charles Leclerc, who brought home second place in front of a proud Monegasque crowd.

Leclerc started from second on the grid after missing out on pole by a fraction and held his position throughout the race. Briefly leading during pit stop rotations, he returned to the track behind Norris and maintained a strong pace to the end. His performance earned him “Driver of the Day” and bolstered Ferrari’s position in the Constructors’ standings.

Reflecting on the result, Leclerc said, “It’s a shame we couldn’t take the win today, but we gave it everything. At the end of the day, we lost the victory yesterday and Lando just did a better job. He deserves this win.”

Hamilton, meanwhile, fought back from a three-place grid penalty that saw him start seventh. Using a strategic overcut after rivals pitted early, he capitalised on clear air to move into fifth, where he remained despite encountering traffic and struggling with car balance at times.

Team Principal Fred Vasseur praised both drivers for executing a strong race in a setting where overtaking is especially limited. With Norris and McLaren out front, Leclerc’s consistency and Hamilton’s recovery helped Ferrari outscore key rivals and close the championship gap.

The final race results saw Norris take the win, followed by Leclerc, Oscar Piastri, George Russell, and Hamilton. Ferrari now sits just five points behind Mercedes as the battle for second in the Constructors’ Championship intensifies.

The European triple-header wraps up next weekend with the Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 2nd June.
