Prince Albert II and the Princess of Hanover inaugurated Mémoire des lieux on Tuesday 29th September, a new exhibition exploring Monaco’s architectural evolution and urban transformation, running at the Salle d’exposition du quai Antoine Ier until 24th January 2027.
Curated by Célia Bernasconi, Director of the Heritage Institute, the exhibition examines the physical changes of the local landscape as buildings vanish and the city adapts.
The opening ceremony brought together key officials, including State Secretary Yvette Lambin-Berti and Interior Minister Lionel Beffre, underscoring the government’s focus on documenting Monégasque heritage.

A multidisciplinary urban lens
The exhibition layout features photographs, monumental works, audiovisual installations, and contemporary pieces. These works examine how local architecture, personal narratives, and resident experiences intersect within a changing urban environment.
Student design and guest installations
The physical scenography was designed by Louise Chatelain and Théophile Sargentis, students from the Pavillon Bosio, under the Décors programme. Guest artist Gabriel-Noé Rosticher contributed an unreleased film documenting the Principality through its subterranean infrastructure, tunnels, and transitional spaces.
A collective roster of artists
The collective showcase includes works by Albert Diato, Luis Molné, Roger Capron, Victor Vasarely, Denis Morog, Keith Haring, Gabriele Basilico, Lidwine Prolonge, Mathilde Janson, and Jürgen Nefzger.
