Prince Albert arrived in Marseille on Thursday to take part in the opening of an independent forum on the topic of “knowledge”. French Secretary of State Thierry Mandon also took part.
The Prince said that science will play an increasingly important part in solving great issues of the day, while for his part, Mr Mandon said that a challenge exists to transfer scientific knowledge to policy makers. We cannot pretend that science arrived out of nowhere, as if we should not make efforts to fund and support research Mr Mandon said.
Another participant, Richard Sempere, Director of the Mediterranean Institute of Oceanology, said that in the context of the Mediterranean, where we face major changes and challenges, we need the contribution of scientists, but they must also listen and be open-minded.
