Members of Monaco’s Princely Family joined relatives and friends at Monaco Cathedral on Wednesday 4th November to pay their final respects to Antoine de Massy, who died last month at the age of 29.
The funeral was held at the Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate, where mourners gathered to remember the son of Christian de Massy and Cécile Gelabale.
A photograph shared by the Prince’s Palace shows Antoine’s coffin surrounded by floral tributes, including arrangements bearing his portrait, as mourners stood together inside the cathedral.
A member of Monaco’s extended Princely Family
Antoine de Massy was the grandson of Princess Antoinette, the elder sister of Prince Rainier III, and a first cousin once removed of Prince Albert II.
Following his death, the Prince’s Palace issued a statement expressing the sadness of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène and offering condolences to his family and loved ones.
Investigation into death continues
Antoine’s body was discovered on 25th October in a landscaped area below Boulevard du Larvotto.
Monaco’s Prosecutor General, Stéphane Thibault, subsequently announced a judicial investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
A 42-year-old Ukrainian national who has lived in Monaco for approximately 30 years has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and failure to assist a person in danger. He disputes the allegations and is presumed innocent.
Investigators are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding Antoine’s fall, with an accidental fall not ruled out.
